Overraskelse!

Takk!

Life part 2.3.6

Ok, so today there are exactly 14 days left until the deadline of my master project.

TWO WEEKS!!

This is the most important thing I have ever done. Nothing has defined my future like this project will. And yes, I know that you can do anything, that I shape my own future and that this is just one piece in the puzzle, but this is also one of the most important opportunities I have to succeed in academia.

This weekend was my last two days off before May 15. I might have a beer and I might go see G7 at Avant Garden, and I most definitely will continue exercising three days a week, but other than that I spend 14 hours in the office every day.

Worst part? I am actually a bit thrilled. This is exhiting!

Hugs

Hotel

Right now I am at Britannia hotel here in Trondheim. Why? Because Erik and I are escaping real life and spending the weekend in a nice hotel, alone. We realised that we needed some time alone and that we really didn’t need to go to another city to do just that. So then we ended up packing a suitcase and going across town instead. We saved time and money not travelling and now we will just enjoy the SPA, the wonderful breakfasts and each others’ company.

It will be a weekend of champagne, good food, board games and fun.

PS: we have been super cultural lately, I just haven’t had the time to blog about it. Theatre and concerts 🙂

I think wordpress has started talking with my phone again, therefore:

Stress!

I can feel my stress level rising as Easter, the master project dead line and summer are approaching. Even though this March has been the quietest March I have had in years, I worry more than I usually do. I know I should spend 10, rather than 8 hours working with my master every day. And even though I have less to do in scouting, I still have some projects and I know I don’t supervise them as well as I should.

There is still so much left to do with the project and I have only 8 weeks to go. I have gotten myself a sommer job, so I think I’ll have enough money for the summer and maybe September too. We’ll see. But less to worry about there 🙂

Tomorrow is my presentation for the Department of Biology and even though I have worked with my presentation this week (and gone through it with my supervisors) I still haven’t tried to talk through it… And I have to admit that I am a bit nervous. It is my whole master, what I have done the last 1,5 years. Scary stuff. Have to rehearse later today.

I am too slow. I wonder if I should start a new regime in the office, so that I am not allowed to leave before I have finished the goal I have set for the day. Either it works or I die of exhaustion. I think I need a hug.

On Friday I’ll be in Oslo and I will go wisit the PhD that made the genetic markers I have used in my project to discuss my results. I wonder how it will be. Can’t wait for Easter. Even though I will have to work with my project, there will be some time off and Erik will be back.

My lovelife

Do you know what’s the biggest influence on my lovelife right now? This:

This is a map of the undersea internett cables that go to Africa (from here). And apparently ships keep tearing them, and then internett goes slower. And then Skype and everything else gets grumpy and I can’t talk to Erik. Oh well. He had better internett in Malaysia than in USA, so we’ll see what happens when the internett in their office gets upgraded. For 4,5 years now I have only used the internett at my uni and I have to admit that I am not looking forward to super slow internett when I finish here. Can you believe that youtube came in 2005? Amazing, right? I can’t believe how much my life depends on internett these days.

But now: back to work!

Home

Going home today. This is the view from Sogndal airport. An airport so small they scan luggage and carry-on in the same machine. Where the airport shuttle bus driver also is the one taking the luggage out of the airplane.

Sometimes you get just as much culture shock in the “next valley” as on the other side of the world.

I am returning home to an empty apartment and I have to admit that I am already missing him a lot (but not the alot, for those of you who know the joke) and really hate being alone. Especially now that communication is difficult and expencive. I know it is only two weeks, but I still miss him.

So if you see me, give me a hug. I’ll be happier because of it 🙂 Now; new week, new job applications…

Right versus pragmatic

I am stealing the title of a very good blogpost about fighting piracy in media. He starts with an easy example, the refers to the Oatmeal comic about the same problem and then, without any bad language or anything suggests that publishers should take a more pragmatic stand and spend their money on beating the pirates on their own terms. That is, giving the costumers something that is faster and easier. And I have to agree with him, it it had been easier, I would have done things differently. And there are things I see that I would never have paid for.

Leap year

Ok, so I’m a leap year baby. Or leap year grown up, more like. So today we are going out for a three course meal at emilies, just around the corner of my office and then some beers with friends at Lyche.  It’s a very good day.

And btw, listen to these, they are good:

The newest from Coldplay (for good, clean pop with a hint of electonica)

Or from Den Svenska Björnstammen (for Swedish indie and groovy times)

Or Emeli Sandé (for everything from pop, electronica, rock, soul, she is amazing)

I dag

07.45: Styrketrening
Frokost

Happy single’s awareness day

Still early

So it is still early in the week, so I thought I might write a couple of words on what happened this weekend. Friday we went to a Charity party arranged by TSSG, the student scout group. I only took pictures with my phone, and few were any good, but I’ll put some of them up shortly. Especially Erik’s outfit pic. He looked lovely.

Even though we left early, Saturday started late and was generally calm. Since I had finished the week at the office in style, I did absolutely nothing without a thread of guilt, for the first time in a long while. Lovely. In the evening we were invited to Pia to have dinner. She made us the most delicious meal (pictures later when I find an easy way to get pictures phone -> computer), we had wine and went to the Jaga Jazzist consert at Samfundet. It is definitely jazz and very modern, so much time at the consert was spent not understanding very much. But it was very nice, anyhow.

Sunday as the best day of the weekend. We mangaed to clean the whole house before Stian came for brunch. We had eggs, bacon, freshly baked bread and so much spread it was impossible to eat it all. I always say that it is a good breakfast when you have more than three glasses or more 🙂 Then we went climbing for a couple of hours. It was wonderful to climb again. I hope we manage to get Amund and Anne out to play more regurlarly 😉 The rest of the evening was spent on the sofa. We had dinner, watched “The king’s speech” and just had fun.

So you can see, best weekend in a long while.

Hipster Jesus

Backstage tech

After one year at Studentersamfundet I know quite a bit of people working backstage (I have had to deal with on-stagers myself too) and I just wanted to post this one for them. I like knowing the people who do the work and to know how much work that goes into it. Smile to the next tech you encounter 😉
