Girls’ rights

In two weeks I am going to Kopenhagen for an event hosted by WAGGGS, the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts. There are two world organisations for scouting in the world, WAGGGS and WOSM (World Organisation of the Scout Movement), where WAGGGS is a (mostly) girls only-organisation, while WOSM have no gender specific focus.

As these two organisations are actually global, most of their work is not done in Europe and most of their members do not have the good fortune of experiencing the aftermath of the last 100 years of equality work that has been going on in Europe. One of the aspects where the two organisations are very similar, is in their work on developing good people and good leaders. And the event I’m going to in Kopenhagen, is part of the WAGGGS Leadership Development Programme.

The event that I will be going to “Beyond boundaries”, is described like this:

“This event will provide a forum for decision makers in Girl Guiding/Girl Scouting associations to share challenges and raise awareness on leadership development trends; to learn and discuss about leadership theories and practices; to analyse and consider the conditions and tools that can help addressing the diversity in leadership approaches across WAGGGS members.”

My scout association does not spend much time working on female-only topics and it’s always interesting to attend WAGGGS events. You never realise how male-dominated all organisation work and every day life is before you’re in an all-female environment. I am excited to see what I learn the five days I will spend in Kopenhagen.

Matsnobb?

Rucksack?

I have to admit that I prefer not to use rucksacks. I wear them when I actually have to carry around something heavy, but I really prefer to keep my computer and reading glasses in the office, and just carry my packed lunch around every day. So I only use handbags and such, but I have to admit that I could have lived with one of these rucksacks from Yang Du. An own or crocodile, perhaps.

Rucksacks

If you like it, there are a lot of cool meets fun clothes from the brand as well, I would try ebay or something.

Pollution

Pollution

You can say what you will about pollution, plastic bags and the like, but what is true s that it is a problem. My heart aches for the turtle with the “belt”, it is just terrible to look at. And I’m thinking of that whale they found this fall, that had a lot of plastic bags in its belly (they eat them because they look like jelly fish). I am considering beginning to pick up other peoples’ rubbish in the streets, not just my own.

Week 4

This weekend was calm, quiet and good. I have ended up going to the gym a lot during weekends, and this one was no different. Because of train problems during the morning, I was 1 hour late for work (which means I spent 2,5 hours getting to work), so I stayed an hour more on Friday and then went straight to the gym. Ruben came by with some Asian food from Sagene and we watched the first Varg Veum movie, Girl’s Generations’ (South Korean pop group) first Japan tour video on YouTube and talked about South Korea and his plans for moving.

Erik came home very late Friday, so I had most of Saturday to myself while he slept. I finally managed to organize all my pictures on my domain and delete all the copies I had everywhere. So when I manage to get a decent gallery application, all my pictures will be at bulldozerborg.com. Late Saturday we did some grocery shopping and invited some friends over for a quiet evening. Sunday we were back in the gym, finally cleaned the apartment and had (yet another) scout meeting. This seems like how our weekends usually end up.

Oh, and good news! My travel plans for the spring are soon all in order and I will be going to Kopenhagen, Paris, Italy and Porto before summer 🙂 This week will be about keeping up my exercise and going on our first trip with the scout troop.

  • Monday I am hoping to go for dinner at Tinas’, but I’m afraid she is still sick. In that case I’ll probably go to the gym.
  • Tuesday Tone has invited us for dinner.
  • Wednesday I have a meeting with a project group, team of what will the my scout associations’ first Explorer Belt in a long while.
  • And after my meeting I might have to pop by the patrol meetings at the scout house to see how they are doing.
  • Thursday is open, so a nice dinner and/or the gym.
  • Friday is free, but I guess we will have to do a lot of last minute preparations for our hiking trip.
  • Saturday we are going hiking with the scout troop. It is just a short trip, but it will be the first time I’m really out and about with the kids, so I am very excited.
  • Sunday, after we have come home from the hike, I guess we will clean our gear and collapse on the couch.

Road trip!

Good news! Erik and I are going to Italy on a road trip this Easter 🙂 We have now even bought the tickets, so now it is definitely happening. I can’t wait to go. There is nothing better that travelling with Erik and I am looking forward to spending ten days in romantic Tuscany with him. There will probably be a lot of what we did when we went to Uppsala for my interview in September last year.

The Beasts of the Southern Wild!

You have to see this film

beasts_of_the_southern_wild

You might know that it’s main actor has been nominated for an Oscar.

She has this amazing presence in the film. We saw it earlier this week and there are so many things that I liked, the story is really a fairy tale. The real world is really the world of a five year old, which is much more magical and logical at the same time than the world I currently live in. The filming is as with an hand held camera, which gives it almost a documentary feeling. There are a lot of really good characters and many sides of life are portraied with affection and warmth, but also just as they are, the naked truth. There is action, anger, catastrophe, curage and love.

See it!

Troppstur

Rescuetime – week 2

RescueTime _ uke2

What does this tell you? That I wasn’t particularly efficient at work last week. Or not at all, really. This is one of the graphs that Rescuetime will give you of what you actually did on your computer. So I signed up and decided to not try to be good, just do what I did the week before. And it turns out that I spend way too much time on Google Reader (no news there) and that I am not very productive in general. But I am also either very productive or very non-productive.

I will have to tweek the settings a bit, but I think this will be one of my greatest tools during this PhD. The interesting part will be how good I can get.

Wish me luck!

Week 3

This weekend was a good one too, even though we didn’t get to clean the apartment as we had wished. But there was a lot of good food, some shopping (feels like I haven’t done that in a while) and exercise. Friday I went swimming after work and when I came home Erik had made a wonderful meal, bought flowers and we had a very good Italian wine.Saturday we were super efficient. We went to our storage and got the last of the winter sports equipment and some books I was missing. Then we had lunch with Erik’s parents and did a round through the shops at Majorstua (this is the point where I bought three new pairs of shoes and a dress). In the evening we had tapas at Meatmarket at Aker Brygge and went past a friend’s party on our way home. Sunday we were up early and got some execise before brunch with my parents at Mat & Mer (slow service, good food) at Bjølsen. I ended the weekend with my fifth scout meeting of the week.

But this week is mutch better, or at least not as crowded as last week.

  • Monday is the day for the late weekend cleaning and looking for tickets to Italy for Easter holidays.
  • Tuesday there is another date night. We are going to see “Life of Pi“.
  • Wednesday is the first troop meeting (Scouts) after Erik and I decided to be real scout leaders again.
  • I am really looking forward to Thursday, because I am coming home with Tina after work. She has invited me for real southern Indian food for dinner with her family. I can’t wait to taste real, every day Indian food.
  • Friday I have no plans, but I might be going into the woods to entertain some scout leaders around the camp fire.
  • Saturday is empty and I am happy keeping it that way.
  • Sunday I’ll probably go for my weekly weight lift session and in the evening we have another planning meeting in the scout group.

It looks to be a good week.

Streaming

This summer

In the middle of master thesises (is that really the plural?), moving, travelling and not having my own coputer, I have realized that I never actually posted pictures. I have therefore decided that I will have some regular updates with real (and good) photoes.

As I might have said this summer, I was, for the first time, the fastest of the four of us. That meant that I had time to stop and photograph on every hill top. So here is a selection of (mostlyl) close up nature.

Every day I look at pictures from warm, sunny, pretty places and every day I wish that I could find something for Erik and myself to do there. I realise that I will have to travel at one time. Not just weekends or weeks, but months and years.

But for now I am happy in Oslo with my friends and job. I have to finish this PhD first anyway.
