Holiday!

Today is he day! Right now we are well on our way to Tuscany in Italy. We are going to visit Victoria in Florence, see the tower in Pisa, look at tons of stones (architecture), nature, grape fields, eat wonderful Italian food, drink wine and drive around. Ten days of pure bliss <3

Internet gave me some nice pictures to illustrate 😉

Rainy Sunday in Paris

I ended up having almost a whole day of spare time in Paris after my meeting there. I didn’t have any “most dos” and not very much is open on Sundays, but it ended up being a good day. I tried to find a Sunday marked, but is was raining (we even had hail in the end), so nobody were out. And that city is really big, so it takes some time just to get around. I didn’t want to get my camera wet, so these are the only good ones I took.

DSC_1224

José and Jón (and my suitcase) were my company for some of the day. Here we are hiding from a sudden shower of rain.

I tried to find a street marked, but they were all closed.

My lunch. It was actually sort of a strange, because it was extremely difficult to chew, but perfectly done. And the chips were heaven.

There is definitely something about the architecture in this town, it’s grandness, maybe…

Paris (or planning, really)

I went to Paris last weekend. I didn’t notice it much, but I was there. I knew Mary, Jón and Radu already, and Mary and I share a love for all things pretty. Especially dresses and skirts and pretty colours.

On our way to the office the first morning.

We used two rooms in the offices of the French scout association.

When in doubt, have steak. Ask for “bleu”, it means blue. I think it is the best thing about French, they don’t have a word for “rare” (as in “how do you like your steak”), they say blue.

DSC_1223

I had snails (escargót), risotto and some bubbly.

I will show you the pictures from the (rainy) Sunday later!

Noter!

293

Charity party

A couple of years ago the student scout group (TSSG) had a problem paying for their obigations to Redd barna (Save the children). It had been based on the return of bottles (pant), but people weren’t drinking enough (emagine that). Then I suggested that we could have a charity party in stead, to “force” people to drink and get incom from cover charge. It was an instant success and they are still doing it 🙂 And lucky for me, this years’ party was the weekend we went to Trondheim.

So here are the best pictures I have from the evening. These are also the only pictures that I took the whole weekend (except some on Erik’s phone).

WAGGGS Leadership Development Program

…or why I went to Kopenhagen a couple of weeks ago.

It was a part of the leader development work that they do in WAGGGS (world organisation for girl scouts and guides) and this time the object was global leadership in diverse environments. In order to make it diverse, there was a great geographic diversity in the origin of the participants. I have never been in such a diverse environment before, not that I haven’t been in places with people from all over the world, but as we were only 60 people, I actullay talked to everyone during the five days we were there. And I learned so mutch about all the countries that were there. I had time to learn about life, challenges and joys of young people all over.

I only managed to get my camera out one day, but the light was wonderful, so I am quite pleased with the result.

DSC_0799 DSC_0800

This is what has kept me in scouting after I moved away from home. The endless possibilities to travel, meet new people and learn about the world. To see the diversity and get to know exhiting people who do exactly what I do.

And in two weeks I’m going to Paris to plan an event quite like this 🙂 I’m hoping for a sunny Paris.

Carry on

I have bought my first suitcase 🙂 up til now I have used a backpack or Erik’s suitcase, but lately we have been travelling at the same time and I have needed my own. So two weeks ago I finally bought one.

What was most important to me in the suitcase was; it had to be light, big on the inside, colourful and have big wheels.

image

image

This is what I brought to Copenhagen, running gear, two sets of clothes, notebook, computer and scout uniform. It was no problem living out of the suitcase for a week, so I am very happy with it. I love that I am now able to buy things that I need at the moment I need them, rather than save for ages like I had to do before a steady salary came into my life.

Road trip!

Good news! Erik and I are going to Italy on a road trip this Easter 🙂 We have now even bought the tickets, so now it is definitely happening. I can’t wait to go. There is nothing better that travelling with Erik and I am looking forward to spending ten days in romantic Tuscany with him. There will probably be a lot of what we did when we went to Uppsala for my interview in September last year.

This summer

In the middle of master thesises (is that really the plural?), moving, travelling and not having my own coputer, I have realized that I never actually posted pictures. I have therefore decided that I will have some regular updates with real (and good) photoes.

As I might have said this summer, I was, for the first time, the fastest of the four of us. That meant that I had time to stop and photograph on every hill top. So here is a selection of (mostlyl) close up nature.

Every day I look at pictures from warm, sunny, pretty places and every day I wish that I could find something for Erik and myself to do there. I realise that I will have to travel at one time. Not just weekends or weeks, but months and years.

But for now I am happy in Oslo with my friends and job. I have to finish this PhD first anyway.

Outfits from when it was actually warm

I am working through pictures from my trip to Halle and thought I’d post some “outfits when travelling with a small backpack for two days.”

What I brought was

  • two dresses, one cold and one warm
  • one sweater
  • one belt
  • one pair of tights and one pair of socks
  • one pair of walking shoes (brogues) (but I bought another while there)
  • one light, windproof, long jacket
  • silk scarf

How to…

pengiun

walk on ice! I tried teaching it to one of our Indian PhDs on Monday, maybe I should put up a poster. And this also shows that my theory that it helps to run when it is too icy, is true. Penguins also “run” on the ice 🙂

Oh, and

MERRY CHRISTMAS

Memories of Halle

It feels like a lifetime ago that I went to Halle to decide if I wanted to accept the PhD I was offered. The weather was sunny, warm and pleasant. I thought it would be nice with some pictures of sun and colourful leaves, now that the snow if falling and the world is white.

DSC_0003

I really liked a lot of the street art and architecture in Halle.

Stavanger 2013

Just some pictures of what met us this morning when we entered the auditorium. Nice merch for our national jamboree next summer.

The piece I liked the best was this match box. If you look closely you see that it says that it is enough matches for ten camp fires. You only need one match per camp fire, right? 😉 See you in Stavanger in July 2013?

Open tabs

After a (terribly) slow start I am finally back on track with job applications and interviews. And as I am now actively searching the internet and LinkedIn for non-govermental opportunities I find a lot of other stuff as well.

First of all, a very good review of the new film Beasts of the wild. Definitely need to see that movie. And then I read about this projectto get young people to do more creative writing. The project is all well and good, but my facination really lies in their approach. In a couple of cities in the US and one in London, they have made shops like Hoxton Street Monster Supplies in London. There is one store for superheroes, one for pirates and even more other places.

I gave me an instant Harry Potter feeling. And they say in the video that the shops actually contribute a lot to the foundation, so next time I’m in London, I’ll pop by to get me some canned fear 🙂

My kind of advertisement

Ah, I don’t know how many Icelanders you know, but I know my fair share. That is, more than 15 (and when they are only 300 000 that’s a good percent) and I can tell you right now that all Icelanders are crazy. They are the lovely sort of crazy that you fall in love with straight away, but they do a lot of crazy stuff.

And by the way, if you have never been to Iceland, GO THERE.
