The plan
This is my life plan. This is what I will be doing the next 2.5 years. I am the top line and Nicky is the bottom one. You probably don’t understand what it means, but the important bits are:
- I will try to submit my first manuscript in June 2014.
- I will try to submit my second one in September 2014.
- Then I will a whole year to work on my last manuscript before my defence in December 2015.
This autumn I still have 15 credits to finish in addition to the analyses I’m doing, so you can see I am happy I didn’t become troop leader in Longship or committed to anything else. I still have Komité Speiding and a couple (five) projects there, but none of them will finish before Christmas, so I’m good. And there is only 1.5 weeks until the house warming party, so not much left of fixing the apartment either.
Tuesday 17. Sept
It suddenly started raining this weekend and autumn is over us at last. So now both my top and sweater are wool. Sweater is hand made in Shetland, but bought in Pisa. The trousers are from my mother.
And it’s the first day in boots! (Merrel)
And I chose a hat instead of scarf today. This is merch from Speidertinget last year in Geiranger.

This and that
A theater I’d like to see.
18 fandom workout shirts I’d like to own (at least one of them).
A cool comment on “the girl code” from the Man Repeller.
- Never stay silent when a friend is falling for an asshole.
- Never favorite a best friend’s bon mot. Always retweet it.
- Never trust a girlfriend who dates a married man.
- Never refuse to write a recommendation for the offspring of a friend (no matter how big an idiot the kid is).
- Never steal your friend’s thunder at a dinner party—when she’s on, give her room! Pound the table! Bang your glass with a spoon! Laugh the loudest at her story!
- Never give your friend’s business four stars on Yelp. Always give five.
- Never agree when a friend says she’s flabby, baggy, saggy, lumpy, floppy, veiny, squishy, scrawny, etc., etc. Tell her to shut up. Tell her life is too short. Tell her to eat, drink, and be merry. And finally…
- Never treat other women disrespectfully: It gives men ideas.
Reading Epbot on the last Dragon Con, I found this guy’s explanation on why he cross dressed at Princess Leia in her slave costume.

Presentation
Today I am working from home to finish the two presentations I will hold tomorrow. For 5 credits I will talk about animal genetic data analysis (but mostly just genome-wide association studies) and Bayesian statistics and Markov chain Monte Carlo methods in statistical genetics.
It will be my first presentation at UMB and I have fingers and toes crossed that it will be ok. Excited to see if anyone else than my supervisors and the sensor will attend.
But there is still a lot of presentation to finish and some talking to rehearse.
And this weekend I am going to Leikvinjar scout sentre at Hønefoss for a weekend meeting with my comittee and in just two weeks we will have our house warming party!
Rape
Almost a quarter of men surveyed in a UN report looking at violence against women in parts of Asia have admitted to committing at least one rape.
Rape was particularly common within relationships. However, one in 10 men admitted raping a woman who was not their partner.
Ten thousand men from six countries took part in the survey.
Men were asked questions like:
- Have you ever had sex with your partner when you knew she didn’t want to but you thought she should agree because she’s your wife/ partner?
- Have you ever had sex with a woman or girl when she was too drunk or drugged to say whether she wanted it or not?
Nearly three quarters of those who committed rape said they did so for reasons of “sexual entitlement”.
Report author Dr Emma Fulu said: “They believed they had the right to have sex with the woman regardless of consent.
“The second most common motivation reported was to rape as a form of entertainment, so for fun or because they were bored.”

Friday 6. Sept

Today I am wearing two dresses, using an evening dress under. I have my favourite pair of boots from Nilsson shoes, bright checked orange socks from The Bike Repair Shop, the usual coat from Weekday and a stripy scarf from H&M to go with the socks and earrings.
Today there will be after work dinner with the other PhD candidates at CIGENE, I am really looking forward to get to know them a little bit better.
And we still only have nice plans for this weekend, people visiting and drinking wine. But we have only painted one coat in the livingroom and we probably have two to go…

9/36
9/36 is 0.25, that is 25%.
Why is this interesting? Today I have been a PhD candidate for exactly 9 months out of my total of 36. That means that I have already completed 25 % of the PhD.
This makes me a tiny bit stressed.

Valg 2013
Bathroom

So here you can see our new shower, almost finished. You will also see some of the dirt and strangeness that was under the bathtub and the tub itselt. The tub is the fourth item we have given away on finn.no and it is my favorite way of getting rid of things that can be used, but you don’t want to use anymore. Recycling of things! This far we have given away the whole old kitchen, a wardrobe full of drawers, a kitchen cabinet and this tub. It saves you the time and money of throwing it away too.
So now the bathroom is actually finished and we can move in for real. You know, actually put things on the shelves and get that new lamp. And we have to scrub the room clean too. Four or five weeks of redecorating leaves a lot of dust and dirt…
And yesterday Tone came and helped me file/scrub/polish (pusse) the walls of the livingroom, so now we are half way to smooth walls. And when they are smooth, we will finally start painting them. I can’t wait to see how the red colour will look on the wall. Oh, and Erik went to IKEA yesterday. So we now have the rest of the drawers and doors for the kitchen and a ventilator too.
There is so much left to do in the apartment, but it slowly starts to feel more like an apartment and less like a dump site.
Social life!
You know what? This weekend I was social all three evenings. Don’t think I have had so much spare time in months. I know I haven’t, actually.
Friday we had dinner with Ruben at his parent’s place in Oslo, where he is staying while waiting for a VISA for USA. We had wild salmon! And afterwords we went to Kråka (the Crowbar), a really good brew pub. They only have beer, and it is all on tap. Great place.
Saturday we drove to Fredrik and Karianne in Jessheim to barbeque. It was actually my first barbeque this summer… Tells you a lot about my life this summer I guess. But yeah, we barbequed, talked, discussed travelling, work, houses and Trondheim. UKA is in a few weeks and Erik and Fredrik will be going a couple of times. I miss Trondheim a bit.
Sunday Erik’s aunt ha a birthday barbeque with more than enough rosé on their terrace. It was nice to see his whole family after the summer and hear what they all have been doing.
