Endelig middag

Siena

We visited so many places during the trip, including Siena. We only spent the afternoon there, but we had time for both two churches, icecream and dinner.

DSC_1608

There is this valley in the middle of Siena and we parked on the other side. So here we are walking over to the right side.

45 min in the gym

So this is what I did yesterday when there were no classes I could attend and I didn’t want to wait for something to begin:

First 16 min of running to get the heart pumping:

  • 5 min – fast walking on the treadmill.
  • 2 * (3 * (45 sec + 15 sec)) intervalls. You run superfast for 45 sec, then you jump off (rest your legs on the sides) for 15 sec and then do another round. First three rounds, then 30 sec rest, then three more.
  • 5 min slow walk, to cool off.

Then some weights:

  • 2 * (6 + 6) squats (knebøy) plus deadlift (markløft) with only the bar (25 kg).
  • 3 * 6 squats, 55 kg.
  • 3 * 8 deadlifts, 55kg.
  • 3 * 12 hip thrust, 17,5 kg.
  • 3 * 6 prone bridge (planke) holding two 7 kg weights, lifting them up to the chest alternating them.

I think I spent 45 min in the gym in total, so not a long session, but a good one!

Week 17

You know, the weeks just keep flying by. This weekend has been a glorious sunny experience and I even saw my first russ (high school graduate in red pants), so now I am totally ready for spring. I have a sunburn on my nose and slept under the stars.

This week will be much like last week, different kinds of scout meetings, apartment hunting and maybe I will manage to get to the gym more. My plans keep shifting all the time and mostly because we find new apartments we want to see or deside that some aren’t good enough after all.

I have no idea how many we look at every week, but it feels like a thousand. We almost bought an apartment on Friday and we might buy one today or another one tomorrow. The apartments we look at get bigger and more expensive, but I’m not sure what we will end up buying. And they are all over town, so it will be interesting to see where we end up.

The biggest difference this week is that I will be home the whole weekend! 😀 Friday night we are spending with Tone, but the rest of the weekend is wide open. Wonder what we will do. We have to do something really good, because the next three weekends in a row are all filled with scouting…

Sant Angelo, Ciniganno

We spent two nights in Sant Angelo, a random wine area in Montalcino, just to walk in a wineyard and relax. I’ll post all the close ups of nature later.

I bought three pairs of new tights in Italy (didn’t do that much shopping, I have to admit) and I love them. One red, one purple and one orange. So a couple of days ago I went in colour block orange. The quest for the perfect tights continues.

Sheep

The camera on my phone has not been functioning for some days now, so while I’m waiting for the time to give the phone a spring cleaning I’m using my iPad as camera. I have never felt so silly while taking a picture (and I generally feel silly when I take pictures of myself) as I do when using the iPad. It feels like taking a picture with a book. It’s too big and everything.

But I will nevertheless give you of the sheep that are grazing just outsiden my office window.

San Gimignano

San Gimignano is a small town an hour south of Florence that is mostly known for all its towers. The families of the town went a bit crazy and buildt towers to prove how rich they were, the higher the richer. They now have 25 towers still standing, nothing ever ends in Italy. Victoria came with us to se this strange town.

This was the venue of our second lunch. The first one was not good enough to photograph, but this place was wonderful. Not only did they have flowers on every wall, but also the best bruscetta in the world.

Italians do simple food, bread and olive oil. I could have lived my whole life eating just that.

Bruscetta! Which really is just toast with tomatoes, traditionally. They just do it so well.

Week 16

The feeling of weekend sort of lingered on to Monday, so I’m a bit late with Week 16. Anyhow, it ended up being a really good weekend. I keep saying this, but at home-weekends are the best. I should probably take the consequences of this and start saying no to things.

Friday I tried the rowing machines in the gym for the first time. Then I met up with Åse and first had dinner at Cafe Løkka at Grünerløkka and then beer at at bar around the corner. She had to go home to her dog, but Erik came and had a drink with me before it was time for bed.

Saturday was a slow breakfast, then I headed to Bekkestua to have lunch with my parents, talk and show pictures from Italy. When I came home we made grilled haloumi, couscous and tomato salsa for dinner and then everybody (aka Kristian, Silje, Åse, Martin and Karen) came over. There was an epic round of Munchkin and some cocktails and suddenly Saturday turned into Sunday.

I had an early morning Skype meeting with Jón about the games we are going to play with the participants when we are in Malta in a couple of weeks. Jón is one of my favourite crazy Icelanders and I really like working with him. And then I went climbing! It’s been ages and it was really fun to climb with Kristian and Silje. I think Klatreverket is overpriced, but there is nothing I can do about it. The Sunday ended with an epic dinner and a movie-date.

This week has a lot of scouting in it, but also some space for relaxing.

  • Monday there was another dinner and movie-date, this time home made pizza and “Thelma & Louise”. I have never seen it before and I highly recommend it. In the middle I had a short Skype meeting discussing the anniversary of the scout cabin of the student scout group. The celebration will be in August 2014, we are just trying to be prepared…
  • Today I have a longer Skype meeting preparing Rovernet in Malta in the beginning of May. We are getting closer, have participants and now need to get everything together.
  • Wednesday I’m going to the gym again. I went to a heavy lifting-class last week and was completely wrecked for two whole days. So I thought I’d go back this week. And afterwards I will pop by the scout house to see how things are going.
  • Thursday Erik is out and I have no plans. I probably have paperwork I should do, but I think I might try to get some company for dinner.
  • Friday I hope I have time to stop by the gym before I go to Nøtterøy outside of Tønsberg. It is the time for Roverløft 2013 at Torød and I will be there and support the team through the weekend. I will also talk to rovers and do a presentation, but mostly just walk around. Hoping for warm weather the whole weekend! I’ll be back on Sunday, but I don’t know what I want to do then. Go climbing? Another date night with Erik? Maybe we should look at some apartments? We’ll see!

Cremona, Parma and Lambrusco

As I did take a lot of pictures in Italy, and nothing else is happening in my life than work, apartment hunting and bad weather, I thought I’d give you a tour of Tuscany and neighbouring country. First out is Cremona and Parma where we spent our first two days.

DSC_1290

We had checked the forecast and brought an umbrella, we used it more than once unfortunately.

DSC_1295

Every town in Italy has one of these, a duomo, this is the one in Cremona.

DSC_1294

Cremona is the home of the Stradivarius violins, and there are still many who make violins there.

DSC_1300 DSC_1299

DSC_1313

…and arches

DSC_1323

This is the Lambrusco! It is a very common wine in the north on Italy and used as an everyday wine (as they actually have wine everyday). The nice thing about it is that it is a sparkling red wine (not rosé) and is perfect with simple Italian dishes.

DSC_1330

DSC_1334

Parma had some museums

DSC_1333

And no warmth (as you can see). Just after this Erik went back to the car to get his had and gloves.

DSC_1348

We wore a lot of clothes in the beginning of the trip. And I totally adore my Nike Free 3.0, they are pretty, they are comfy, they are light and they take no space in your suitcase.

And everybody had these, we have two of them at home too. Erik was very happy (he is the flower master of our house).

Ravioli. And I loved how you could buy a glass, 0.25, 0.50 or a full bottle of wine at restaurants. So you could buy two or three or more glasses, depending on what you felt like that night.

DSC_1402 DSC_1411

Then we had icecream (we are Norwegians, temperature is not important when you want icecream) at Emilia. They had two chocolate fountains and superb icecream.

After another stroll through Parma we drove to Firenze. We hadn’t realized that there is a mountain range separating north and middle Italy, but there is. And the combination of showers and three (!!!) accidents made us one hour late on our two hour trip. But we had a magnificent steak for dinner when we finally arrived, so it ended well.

Interior design

As we have been on the hunt for an apartment for a while now, I have started noting what I actually like and what I would want to do with my own house (apartment). I realise I really like 20’s style and clean lines. But I also need a good sofa to crash in. We have a long list of things that makes an apartment, an excerpt is:

  • dining table for at least 8, enough working space in the kitchen for three people working at once, a good sofa, enough space for all our clothes (and all my shoes and handbags), space for all our books, CDs and things, storage space close by for hiking gear and skis….

We have also decided that there are so much you can get for free, either from parents and grandparents that have too much stuff, or from Finn and thift shops, why buy something new when you can get better quality for a lower price? So I guess our house will end up looking a bit patched and quirky.

I thought I’d link to two sites, onw with bookshelf porn (for inspiration) and one with IKEA hacks (for ideas). Some sneak peaks here:

The coolest (coffee) bar

…happens to be in Cremona, Italy. We stopped there by chance the first day on our trip. It was at this precise mmoment we learned that Italians have a well regulated feeding shedule. Breakfast is just a cup of espresso and maybe a piece of cake, lunch is between 12.20 and 15.00, then dinner from 19.00 to 22.00. Which means that it is impossible (at least in small towns) to get anything to eat between 15.00 and 19.00. As long as you have a big plate of pasta of pizza (as we usually did), it is no problem to wait, but you have to remember to find a restaurant before 14.15…

All of this was unknown to us the first day, so we spent a lot of time in this wonderful coffee bar, using his wifi and eating all his cakes.

Back to the bar itself. The bar is really a coffee roaster, you know, they roast their own coffee and then make it on the spot. The design of the place was wonderful, clean and cozy. Have a look:

Week 15

This is the longest I have gone without blogging in a long while and it has been really good just to be completely disconnected. I will tell you more (and show pictures!), but I thought I’d give you a short recap of my trip to Italy.

We flew to Bergamo, just outside of Milan, where we had rented a car. The first day we stopped by Cremona and ended up in Parma. We spent a day in Parma, went to Florence to visit Victoria, then started a tour of Tuscany. We went to San Gimignano to see the towers, Siena to see architecture, Montalcino and Montepulciano for wine tasting. The last days of the trip we spent in Florence and a one day-trip to Pisa to walk up the Leaning Tower.

Yesterday we cleaned the apartment and went to look at even more apartments in the wonderful sunshine. It’s crazy how you only have one day to decide if you want to buy a house. This week seems to be a lot calmer than the weeks before Easter, I hope.

Today I’m back at work and tonight we have a meeting for all the leaders in the scout group.
Tuesday I hope to be back in the gym.
Wednesday is open, but we will see what happens.
Thursday I have to register all the scouts that are going to the national jamboree (landsleir) this summer and to all the paperwork.
I think I have to go to a scout seminar this weekend, but I am trying to get out of it. I have too much on my plate right now.

Oh, and this was the first blog post written on my iPad! We brought it to Italy and I am now completely addicted to solitaire (yes, I’m that kind of person) and really love this thing. I think it will definitely be worth the extreme price.
