Compiling

I need to buy this shirt based on this comic

Why? Because this is what I will do the next four months, waiting for my computer to finish an analysis so it can do another one. I’m not a programmer, but I still only deal with computers.

Luggage

After more than 15 trips the last six months, SAS lost my luggage between Oslo and Trondheim today. Lucky for me, my new flatmate has a Mac so I can charge my computer. Hopefully they will deliver my luggage tomorrow so I can charge my phone as well… I can’t believe they lost it. Oh well, I have 10 days in Trondheim and almost no plans. It will be the perfect transition between holidays and work. and maybe I’ll have time to respond to e-mails and make albums of all my pictures from this summer as well.

But now I have to go to sleep and brood over my missing luggage. Tomorrow everything will be better.

ØYA!

There is still one day left of Øya (today), but I thought I’d just say that I’m still alive and that I’m having a wonderful time. I have mostly been following the wonderful Astrid and Sindre around and I now have a ton of wonderful artists that I will listen to this fall.

My “I have to listen more to these when I get home” list:

  • Edward Sharpe and the magnetic zeroes
  • Sharon Jones
  • Destroyer
  • Kanye West
  • Warpaint
  • Real Ones
  • Sandra Kolstad
  • Säkert
  • Janelle Monàe
  • Explosions in the sky
  • Hercules and love affair
  • Guided by voices
  • Noah and the whale
  • The pains of being pure at heart
  • Hilde Marie Kjersem
  • Montée
  • Lykke Li

And I’ll see if I can see Jonas Alaska, The Avett Brothers, Kyuss Lives!, WU LYF, Mari Boine, Sebadoh and Håkan Hellström today. Now shower, lunch date and more music.

Tomorrow I’ll be back in Trondheim and then summer will be over. See you on the other side.

Stockholm fashion week

OK! So I’ll probably be totally hooked on the shows this fall because they will all be in my RSS feed, but since I don’t have the time to re-blog everything I love I’ll give you tiny bits of it all. And this week is fashion week in Stockholm.

Long hair is definitely staying on the scene

Just look at those shades (backstage at Minimarket)

And all the girls at the Rodebejer show had it as well. Love the hats btw.

And from The Local Firm to the gentlemen, caps, shades, denim shirt and slim tie.

I’m starting to think that if I ever were to do anything in this business, it would have to be men’s fashion.

(bokstavlig talt)

Nature?

Last year I got some wonderful photos of nature, especially during our cycling trip, but this summer I’ve only been where the grass didn’t grow. This is what I have so far…

I like trees

This one isn’t as bright as I had wanted, but still.

That’s city nature for you

Pretty planted ones

This one I really like.

So I will only have people to take pictures of this week, but I might do some cycling next week (or walking) and then I hope I’ll get some time in the sun with my new macro lens from B&H. I still haven’t really tried it.

Today

Silk shorts, jacket from Zara, new wonderful yellow bag from Paris and my new silver colored sandals. I’m still very much in love with neon colors

Jo Nesbø

This is a quote from this article.

“Are you scared?”

“Yes, but if you’re not scared, you can’t be brave.”

You should read the article. When the bombing and shooting happened in Oslo I was on the road in the middle of 2000 km on my way from Oslo to Salbris, south of Paris. I had (almost) no internet connection for two weeks and all the information I got was from French and German TV. I didn’t know anyone that were involved and it sort of feels like it didn’t happen because I wasn’t there. I have seen the flowers in the streets of Oslo and I have read the blog posts, but it still doesn’t feel real. And then I know that this was just a one off, it will not happen again and the world is not more dangerous now than it was four weeks ago. I will continue not to be scared. I like the quote because you can’t be fearless and brave, to be brave means that you have done something even though it was scary. If you didn’t think it was scary you weren’t brave.

US of A

We went to a flea market and a raffle thing. One guy designed t-shirts like this one. I love that the world is so small that you can find your fandom on the other side of the world. Hipsterville made me feel terribly and wonderfully normal, but it was cozy.

We went shopping to get Erik some new clothes. He needed it. I am very pleased and I hope he is too. It was fun. But I won’t recommend Abercombie and Fitch though, the costumer service there was terrible. J Crew on the other hand was fantastic. And they had so many pretty things that I had to look down when I walked through the lady department. And on a second note, Banana Republic too. Great service, good clothes, nice prices.

We had the most amazing view from the roof of the Air b’n’b apartment we rented in NY and it was so surrealistic to actually be in NYC.

My “breakfast with a view of Manhattan” shot

This is the reason why Erik was in Boston in the first place. Him and Stian (the one on the right) and a third one are going to start up RESolar during the next year as part of their master degree in entrepreneurship. And they hope to actually make a living of it. At least earn money. And Boston is supposed to be a great place for entrepreneurs so there they went. This is their office at Boston University (they are part of a Norwegian Entrepreneurship Program at BU).

We went on a harbor cruise to see a bit of Boston harbor. It’s important to be touristy when you are a tourist. And it was terribly hot out so it was great to spend some time on a boat away from the boiling streets.

Ingeborg, Erik and Boston harbor.

I had some time to myself while Erik was at school and ended up taking pictures of people I saw. Here I am in the Boston Common, the park in Boston. I just loved her red pumps so I had to take a picture. She looks so stylish even with all the commotion around her. They didn’t have a real botanical garden there (and I didn’t have time to visit the one in Brooklyn), but the parks were really nice.

The lake and the bridge and just behind it you will find the swan boats.

Wonderful old streets in Boston. Even the shops had flowers outside. While walking through the old parts of the city you felt how old the city was (at least for USA) and it is very European in a way. The narrow streets and the cobble stones made it so much more cozy and friendly.

This is our wonderful hostess in Boston, her name is Khadijah and she is wonderful. She has written this. I am really pleased with Air b’n’b and recommend it to everyone. It was a really good way of finding cheap lodgings and to get some insight tips on what to do just in that part of town where you are staying. Try it! Khadijah happened to be something right between Erik and myself an entrepreneur who writes about biology and science. It was so fun meeting her.

This is the park closest to where Erik lives in Brookline just outside of Boston. We spent quite a lot of time doing nothing while I was visiting. It was wonderful. I very seldom do nothing and just lying in the sun reading or having lunch in the shade was just what I needed.

This was my second day in Boston. A random guy wanted us to take his picture, so then we asked him to take ours. I will be going back to New York. There are still so many things yet to see and do. Even though we went to the Met and Broadway I still haven’t seen the park or the statue and I need to do some real shopping there as well. But NYC will still be there in 10 years and I’m in no hurry. There are so many other places I want to see as well. The list is just getting longer and my plans are full as always, so it might take some time.

Back!

Ok, so I’ve been back in Norway with a steady Internet connection for more than 24 hours, but there was some sleep to be had, some Internet to catch up on and a friend or two that I had to be quick to see. And I am proud to say that I have read all my e-mails and emptied my Google reader already. Now I only have to respond to the e-mails and start going through my 2000 pictures from this summer. I still haven’t really gone through the pictures from USA and now I have been to a car festival (I’m not the only one liking 2CVs. Look!), I have been to Paris and driven 4500 km. There has never been so much asphalt and so little camp fires in any of my summer holidays before. Before I start the big picture posts, here are some things that I loved in my Google reader:

“I drink it when I’m happy and when I’m sad.
Sometimes I drink it when I’m alone.
When I have company I consider it obligatory.
I trifle with it if I’m not hungry and I drink it when I am.
Otherwise I never touch it, unless I’m thirsty.”

Comment: my dad bought Dom Perignon for me to celebrate my good grades this semester 🙂 I’m so spoiled.

Bold patterns inspired by traditional weaving is made modern and almost looks like pixels.

The first generation of TV  and computer games nerds are old enough to be inspired by it in their designs. And also, things move fast in fashion, just as they do in computer science.

And the colours. I love them. I will show you my bright yellow bag or bright pink dress later, but just colours.

This is the kind of TV I want.

I have been shopping this summer, naturally since I have been to Boston, New York and Paris, but also as I have travelled maybe a bit too much most of the shopping I’ve done has been for others. And not that I have bought things for others, but I have been assisting others shopping. And therefore I have been looking more at men’s fashion than I normally do. Yesterday for instance, I suddenly found myself doing sock shopping. And I must admit that colourful socks are a great way for men to be a bit daring and still have a normal day job. What do you think of these? An ordinary blue suit and black shoes, a blue shirt and then a pair of bright red socks. Looks stylish and young and suddenly not so boring 🙂

This last frame is for Erik and his new pink shirt. You see the likeness? I’m not the biggest fan of tartan, mostly because I’m starting to get bored of it, but still it can be really nice. Like this 🙂

Dresses!

I bought three new dresses while in the US, but I only have pictures of one of them here. But I also brought all the three dresses I bought in Germany this Easter, so it was a week filled with wonderful dresses 🙂 I had some time alone in Brookline just outside of Boston and stumbled upon a wonderful shop with the most amazing dresses. They had a sale and I tried on tons and had the best time. I took pictures of most of them, just so you can see. I bought one of these 😉

Can you guess which I bought?

Food in the US

So, much of the trip consisted of food and eating. As it usually does when you are on holiday and actually need a holiday (don’t have the energy to run around like a crazy tourist all the time).

Erik had bought real champagne to welcome me to the united states.

And our favorite brand of port 😉 We had to order glasses from room service 😉

My first ever room service ordered meal. It was good!

Dinner at the Cheese Cake Factory. The fries are sweet potato. Really good! I had a white pizza.

We bought salad and champagne to have lunch in the park.

Breakfast on the roof of our building in NYC. Manhattan in the background. We had quesedillas and beans (dinner the day before) and asparagus for breakfast. And lovely orange juice.

Watermelon salad with feta and basil at the Rabbithole in Brooklyn

And lentil, artichoke, parmesan and apple salad at the same place

Wonderful chocolate from the local chocolate factory. They hand made and hand wrapped everything.

Cupcake with bacon! We went to the Brooklyn sunday flea marked and they had all sorts of wonderful things 🙂

Lobster roll aka lobster in a hot dog roll for breakfast

This is the most wonderful thing I have ever tasted! It is actually just frozen raspberry on a stick. It tasted delicious!

We also had dinner at a French restaurant where we had escargon (snails) and wonderful classic French cooking (and cocktails!). In NYC we had steak at a Michelin recommended restaurant and I had more sushi than I could finish on Manhattan. And we learned that two Norwegians eat one American portion. The food was cheap and really good, I recommend going!

Outfits and more travels

So I’m back from the United States, but I’m leaving tomorrow, so today is only sleeping, eating and packing. But I thought I’d put out some outfit pictures and then I’ll see what I can do with the rest.

The trip was wonderful, epic, soul healing.

New silk shorts from Juicy Couture, simple top from NoaNoa and pumps from Paco Gil (notice the grey, wool details)

New pair of shorts from Banana Republic, orange laquered belt from D&G and a striped Zara basic top

Dress from H&M

My new Fendi shades

The Marc by Marc Jacobs dress. I wore it at the Met (the opera in NYC) with the same black pumps.

White strapless dress bought in Germany this easter.

Loose fitting, nitted, see through tee from BikBok, it’s sort of shiny sand colored.

My new Stine Goya jacket with the most amazing zipper details works really well with the champagne colored dress.

Hiatus

I have bought a new camera.

I have worked 60 days straight.

I have completed my 100 hour contract and hopefully all the lab work I need for my masters degree.

I am pale.

I am exhausted.

I am in love.

I miss my life, but if you gave me two hours of spare time *right now* I wouldn’t know what to do with them.

There might be a hiatus, there might not.

Boston, New York, Paris and Oslo are on my to do-list for this summer.

I’ll see you.

Tangerine

Ok, so, I spent quite a bit of money last week on clothes. I blame the fact that I haven’t been out shopping for two months because before I knew it, I had spend more money than I had planned. I am an eager follower of British Vogue and have been since 2003. And while surfing their site during my luch hours, I found this article on tangerine (spicy orange) in their Fashion Trends section. And while looking at the pictures, suddenly my dress pops out. My dress! The dress that I bought last week. I have actually bought a dress that was on the runway. I just had to smile. Especially because it was the first thing I saw when I walked into the shop and when I put it on all the people in the shop stopped and stared.  It is lovely and it looks like this:

Since this is the runway model of the dress, my dress differ in some tiny details, but still. It is vowen linen and silk and I can’t wait to wear it.

What to do?

So, I’m trying to figure out what to do while I’m in Boston.

Humpback safari and the New England Aquarium has been suggested. And for me it is mandatory to take a stroll through the botanical gardens. In Boston they both have The Arnold Arboretum (a tree park) of Harvard University (Harvard!) and a botanical garden called the public garden, so I’ll definitely go wandering in the park(s). And maybe I’ll visit the Coit Observatory and gaze at the stars?

I’ll have to do a bit of shopping, but I have no particular plans except to buy myself a new backpack (you know, a big one).

There will be a weekend spent in New York. I think there will Broadway and Brooklyn Brewery, but other than that, we’ll just see what happens.

Any suggestions?

Boston!

I suddenly decided to go to Boston, USA, next week. It took 1,5 days from the possibility appeared to I had the tickets in my inbox (you never have the ticket in your hand anymore, do you?).

This means that:

– I will buy a new camera the next week.

– I will have to work 60 hours and check the results from five weeks of constant lab work in 8 days.

– there will be no more social life in addition to the plans I already have.

– I need to start packing. Not just for Boston (that should be easy), but for my epic trip to France and back again too. Because when I get back to Trondheim I will have to go almost directly to Oslo to start my journey to France.

– I probably shouldn’t be blogging the next week…

Boston here I come!

Men’s fashion

It’s all about men’s fashion in all the fashion blogs these days. And I must say, there are a lot of pretty things out there. Loving the colors, bow ties, patterns and the tailored look. This is from Guerre.

I have promised myself there will be shopping this week. Going to go try on a new backpack and maybe more cameras, but mostly I will be on the look-out for dresses, shoes, jackets and hats.

Summer memories

A long day followed a short night and I gave myself some time at home, just to relax. And since I had mentioned pictures from the North Sea Cycle Route, I looked to see if I could find any. Ah, summer holidays, me want!

As I mentioned, ice cream is a very important part of our holidays.

Sometimes I wonder if I eat more calories than I burn, even though we cycle every day. Three course dinners every day don’t help a bit…

This is lunch after one of the ugliest climbs last year. Norway is just a great big uphill climb.

Helmet hair!

We also spend a lot of time being tourists. Here we are taking in the view at Lista.

The view to Denmark.

In Norway it is necessary to bring packed lunch when cycling. In other countries we just had lunch in a town we passed, but here we had lunch on a beach with a good view to the ducks and the motor way.

It’s really nice to get to see the towns we are staying in. To see the sights and get a feel of the town. And then you can’t cycle for too long every day.

It’s always only been the four of us on our trips. And every year our humor gets a little bit worse. This is my brother and me – Ze dream team.

The mandatory uniform of bicycle shorts and sandals, and a lot of skin.

Ice cream! Since I’m lactose intolerant I try no to eat too much ice cream, but I can’t resist it every time. But sorbét is a good solution to the problem.

As I am a big biology nerd I never stop nerding and here I am showing my father a beautiful member of the Carex family. They are all very forgiving when it comes to me being a big nerd and always teaching them new things 🙂

I come from a family of great sand castle builders and we never let a good beach pass us without making an attempt.

Mom has complained that our trips get more and more expensive. She blames the fact that we are now four drinkers of alcohol…

But when you cycle through all these small towns with local breweries, you just have to try them out… Og well. The four of us will be going to France this summer, there might be some good food and good wine there as well 😉
