Light in the darkness

It’s a strange thing that people wear dark clothes even if  it’s dark. I mean, what we all long for is some light, right?

image

So today I wore my white vintage coat, vintage green silk skarf (grandmother) and vintage brown nitted beanie (made by my mom when she was a student). You can even see the wonderful orange earrings Erik bought me in New York this summer.

My new orange tights from H&M, the white coat and my black vedges from Nilsson shoes.

Clutches

Ok, so I went through a H&M store yesterday and spotted two wonderful clutches,

the orange and the blue. They only costed 200 NOK and are in fake suede, and I definitely want one. My problem is which to choose? This last year I have bought so many things in this orange colour, so it would go with everything I own, but would it be too much? Can you have too many matching accessories? And the other half of my closet is pink, so should I go for the blue? But I have so little blue. But maybe that is a good thing?

Can you help me?

Happy single’s awareness day

image

Shine & coffee

image

We went to Shine yesterday to look at clothes and drink cava. They didn’t have anyone wearing the clothes, but we did see some nice things. And they did have cava, cheese and cake 🙂

image

This was one of the better ones, a structured jacket. It would be wonderful for spring. Two girls bought one instantly in blue. Nice!

image

They have beautiful jewelry from Jade Jagger too.

After we had seen the clothes, admitted that they were too expensive and drunk our cava, we went out for a coffee and talked about how weddings are getting more and more attention in our lives.

My only comfort is that even though everyone seems to be getting babies or married, some at least choose to do it differently. This picture is from Vintage Honeymoon (a swedish site) and I love their matching redness.

Dagens øyenstikker

image

Trench

I have a thing for trench coats. And I’d love to get bolder with prints. So if you are rich and kind, I would like this one:

I think you’ll find it at Selfridge’s in London.

Winter shoes…

Ah, I loved the shoes, I loved the colours, I loved the pants and the skirt, I loved that they can still walk around like this even though it is November. I desperately need to spend a winter of my life in a place where I can dress like this. You have no idea how wonderful it is.

PS: my parents are visiting this weekend, so now I give myself over to good company, wonderful food and sightseeing. Pre-Christmas holidays.

Movember

I have nothing to say on the matter, except that I love these:

Both from Style Bubble (her on the first picture) from the Tweed Run in London this weekend. As you know, I was in England myself this weekend, but after delayed flights and other treats, I will postpone more in depth blogging to another day.

Myggstikk

Make (me) up

I seldom wear any make up, but I like to do it. It’s just that I’d rather sleep than do my make up in the mornings. And half of the mornings I’m not in the same house as my make up. It probably says a lot about me that I don’t bother to carry my make up around. But even so, I like to use good quality make up and I try to own the right basics so I can get a goo result when I try.

I really liked this gallery of the spring/summer 2012 products. Since I’ll pass through tax free twice this November I thought I should have a list of the items I really need right now, but the only things I have come up with are these from the article:

I need something to make dramatic smokey eyes. And probably a wet eye liner, too.

And something for a more glamourous day.

Maybe a new mascara?

With this hair that just gets longer and longer, I need a new hairspray.

And I thought I might invest in one of the big superstars, Elizabeth Arden’s Eight hour cream. Make up is usually really expencive so I usually buy just one item every time I’m through tax free. Do you have any tips on what every girl should own?

Longing

Look at that elegant sleeve.

I love the contrast between the torn and washed denim and the velour pumps.

What can I say? The colours. How her nails and tights are exactly the same shade of red. The yellow shoes.

This record goes on repeat right now. Do you know Veronica Maggio? I have seen her twice this semester. Me likes.

Keeping my shedule, travelling every weekend, being a good master student and exercising two times a week -> no blogging. I have a couple waiting, though, I just have to write it. I will be back.

North-West!

This time it is all about Susie of Style Bubble. She is a British fashion blogger situated in London and one of the few who live off her blogging (and related activities).  Susie writes more text thatn I have time to read most times, but her text is very entertaining and she reflects a lot around many aspects of the industry. I really like her. But what I wanted today was to give you this quote of hers:

“This isn’t so much a fashion week quirk as it is a general etiquette thing.  I’ve been doing a few media interviews and people provide FOOOOOOOOD.  A box of cookies, some sweeties and water goes down a treat when they’re about to ask the all-important, ever-unanswerable “Where do you see fashion blogging going?” question (I’m sometimes after tempted to childishly answer with “It’s going NORTH-WEST!”) “

Right now she is in Tokyo for the fashion week there and that is the reason for higher than usual encounters with the media, I guess.

Most times I am a little bit ashamed to tell people that I have a blog. And especially because I also blog about fashion. What we call a pink blogger (rosablogger) in Norway. And as a biologist, as someone working with my masters degree, as an intelligent woman, I should do something else. But I actually like it a lot. The blogging and the fashion. And when people discover i blog about fashion I have the same urge to say that it goes NORTH-WEST!

You know what I mean?

Coats

Since I spend all my money on UKA, food, alcohol and travelling these days, there is no money left for shopping. Therefore, I spend my time drooling over the spring/summer fashion shows and the autumn trends at net-a-porter.com. My latest obsession is coats. I want them warm and colourful. At least not black. Autumn is dark enough as it is. Cut is important when it comes to coats. Here you can see what I would have bought if I had the money.

Photos!

I have managed to trick my photos out of my camera today! Therefore; outfit picture from the time when it was still summer.

As you can see, I’m not kidding about the neon colours… Bright pink dress, bright orange cardigan, bright yellow bag, silver sandals. I felt like a beacon of light.

Burberry prorsum s/s12

I am perhaps not the most original of girls, but I have to say that Burberry prorsum has this special place in my heart. And my wardrobe for that matter. While being bored in lecture I did a quick look at Vogue and the pictures from the latest shows and WOW! Spring summer 2012 from Burberry prorsum is wonderful! The colours, the coats, the bags. Usually I just fancy details, the shoes, the flowing fabrics or something from the shows, but I could definitely do the same outfits as on the catwalk. They were really wearable. I could buy every item in the collection. Just see here.

This coat. It was the first item out on the catwalk and I totally understand why. I need this one.

The most beautiful green dress. and quite daring.

My most used combination, medium long skirt, waist high with plaits and tight sweater.

There were lots of big pearls and things. Also on the coats. Wonderful rich colours and lots of focus on the waist. I am all in.

The Paris of the north. Or not.

Ok, so I’ve been in Tromsø for six days now. I haven’t had school all day every day for along time and it is exhausting! I get up, eat breakfast, take the bus with the others to the Uni. Then we have lectures and assignments all day, with lunch in the cantina at some point. I stay in a hotel without a restaurant and a kitchen, so we have to eat out. So then we either eat in the cantina or we take the bus to town and find a restaurant. Last week that ended in beers around town (still with our school books and everything) after dinner and a late bus home. Crash at the hotel, quite early, but exhausted and then the new day starts. No time for blogging. No time for the rest of my life.

There is internet, but it is slow. I have a room to myself, but the bed is narrow. I get hotel breakfast everyday, but I have to catch the bus and have no time to enjoy it. I have to eat at restaurants every day, but can’t really afford it. I am half bored and half drowned in really difficult stuff at Uni, but today I finally started to connect all the programs we have been using and understanding how all these parameters that we are estimating are connected (or intertwined, really) and even started working on my own data set for real! So exited! Ask me about Fst values, migration, pairwise differences, p-values, allele ferquencies, microsatellite loci or sequence data and I will keep you entertained for hours…

But, we had Sunday off and started it with a late breakfast (we is my new crew of PhDs from Uppsala and Göteborg. They are wonderful people). We walked into town (Tromsø is so not the Paris of the north. I have been to Paris recently. But the public transport system in Paris is easier than the one here. We often end up walking everywhere, because the buses never go anywhere) and found our way to Fjellheisen. It is a cable car up one of the local mountains. We were lucky and could see most of the view… (Tromsø is very far north and quite far out into the Norwegian sea and there is always fog/rain/something here). And since we were all botanists (almost, one mycologist as well), we mostly looked down at the ground… We had lunch in the fog, refused to pay to see Ishavskatedralen (it’s just a church after all) and were kicked out of Polaris, the polar museum, because it was late and they were closing (did get to see a bit of it, though). I might sound bitter, but it actually was a really nice day. We got a lot of fresh air and were out all day and that was all I wanted to get out of the day. And Tromsø isn’t that bad, it’s just very dark and cold here.

I am taking pictures, but all my electronic equipment is quitting on me, so there will be no pictures for a while. If you want entertainment, listen to Titanium by David Guetta and Sia (it’s from his last album) – I will see him in October or find yourself a fashion blog (or www.vogue.co.uk) and look at pictures from New York Fashion Week and London Fashion Week that are both going on right now.

Want to know what I think? Flowing fabrics, more neon colours, statement coats, patterns, choose the decade you like and stick with it. Nude is still not a bad colour, and animal print is still with us. I haven’t decided yet (and am spending all my money on food in Tromsø and concerts and theatre in Trondheim) so my wardrobe will stay the same for a couple of weeks. But if you’re in Trondheim and need an All Wardrobe Work Through or just a new dress for a gala, let me know 🙂 I’m staying put in Trondheim the whole of October.
