Gallery

As some of you might know, I have a gallery at www.bulldozerborg.com for my pictures. But I haven’t really gotten the hang of how to upload huge amounts of pictures until now. The course I did in bioinformatics at the University of Oslo a couple of weeks ago really helped me get a grip on BASH programming and working in the terminal on my computer. So now I will get all my pictures up there eventually.

But first I’m working on getting backups on both my external hard drives and my domain. Three years of pictures take up a lot of space…

First night frost

I experienced this winter’s first night frost last weekend and it made me miss bright summer nights and light summer dresses. And then I remembered that I haven’t put out any of the pictures from this summer, so now there will be a litteral wave of summer nostalgia. Here goes:

First out, BBQ with the other young people at the museum of archaeology and natural history in Trondheim, where I did my masters degree.

My favorite photo object

Happy people (with thick jackets)

Mmmm, food!

Instant instagram fan

It might be the sun and the lack of Erik to entertain me, but I really like this instagram business.

Dinner last night. But the beer after was good! Today I have bought wegies, so today will be better.

Femkamp

Jeg var jo på Nasjonal roverfemkamp her forleden. Jeg var der fordi jeg sitter i Komité Speiding og skulle være der for å hjelpe og støtte og for å ta bilder. Og bilder tok jeg. Dem finner dere på speiding.no/bilder.

Lunch

One of the days in Tromsø, the weather was so nice that I just HAD to go out and get some shots. This is what I got.

And I will admit to loving yellow leaves and blue skies, at once. Autumn sun is the best.

(they loved painting houses in different colours. It reminded me of Longyearbyen in Svalbard)

I liked this dog. I don’t really like dogs (or animals in general), but this one was a good one. It had been parked behing Naturfagbygget where we were staying. Lucky dog that got to be outside in the sun all day.

These are everywhere in Tromsø. We call them Tromsøpalme (Tromsø palmtree), but I can’t remember the right name. they are up to two meters tall and very dominating in the landscape.

The first of three pictures where I try to capture insects on a plant. It is actually quite difficult.

Not bad for a lunch brake, eh?

Rain and fungi, part 2

Even though we probably had the best weather Tromsø could give us, we started up grey like this. And it is definitely a lot more autumn there than down south.

This is Stina. She is my new friend from Uppsala.

Stina and Anders are both from Uppsala Univeristy. I hung out with them the whole week I was in Tromsø. Which means that we had breakfast, lunch and dinner together, in addition to being in lectures together the whole day, every day. It was good to have people around me. It gets a bit quiet at the museum sometimes.

Street art in Tromsø

And here, the third Swede, Elisabet. She is a PhD from Göteborg. This is Sunday, our only day off. We had walked to town to catch the bus to fjellheisen.

And here we are, the whole gang.

The view from the cable car itself. The weather wasn’t the best, but it wasn’t terrible either, so we were pleased.

The cable car was quite crowded, but we didn’t need to wait too long to get up there.

And here, the fungi. Elisabet works with fungi and the three of us learned a lot of fungi during the week. Here you can see her smelling it to find out which species it is.

Biologists enjoying the simple pleasures in life.

You have no idea how much entertainment there is in 300 meters of heath 😉

Tromsø city in the background.

This is a grass. And those long green things on the end of the grass, those are new shoots. They are clones of the mother plant and will drop off at the end of the season and start a new life. To be viviparous is quite common in plants (to make new shoots, without fertilization) and especially in alpine plants. If the summer is too short and cold, they usually end up doing like this, in stead of reproducing sexually.

🙂 I am very fond of lichens. I have to learn the names of them eventually. But I have a lichen book at home, to it might happen some day.

There is a lot of variation, you just have to stoop down low enough to see it.

This was the view from the breakfast room at the hotel and what you see is the mainland. Tromsø is on a small island, almost like Trondheim.

The sunset taken from the bus on our way home one night. Tromsø is truly beautiful with wonderful mountains and everywhere. I highly recommend it. And it is quite fascinating how they have alpine plants not only in a city, but all the way down to the beaches.

Rain and fungi, part 1

About a month ago, I was fortunate enough to get my boyfriend back from the USA. We went to his cabin for a few days to escape from the world. It rained the whole time, but I go a couple of nice photos anyway. And I also found some fungi (mushroom) that we had for breakfast.

I was very pleased when I found these 🙂

Mmmm, breakfast.

A meeting of 2CV friends

Hurray! I have finally managed to find some pictures from my trip down south to France. These are from the meeting of 2CV friends itself, which was in Salbris. I have more pictures, but here are some to show you just how it was.

My brother’s car.

Many people upgraded while in Salbris. You see, all the car part dealers were there 🙂

We were two that needed to change the ignition system and lots of people who hang with us and talked and helped. Fun!

Sometimes it helps to be two.

Morten and Jan Erik were helping me. They are wonderful. Me in my 2CV shirt and Citröen caps.

A bit of adjustment to get the ignition right.

Lots of people were selling food. This guy made sausages…

These guys sold something that looked like sausage but definitely wasn’t. We never could find out what it was. And that was mostly because no-one could speak even the tiniest bit of English and nobody had bothered putting up signs in English. It was like they pretended it was only for French people and ignored the rest of us.

Most of our eating was done standing because none of the places selling food had brought anything to sit on.

Fresh out of military service.

Ice cream!

I had my first ever macaroons there. Terribly sweet, but good. But I needed two days to finish them all…

And then we went to a wine tasting 🙂

I want a castle like this (as long as you give me the money to keep it as well)!

Dad knows really much about wine and we learned a lot.

Eager tasters and listeners.

We were in the wine district Poille Fumé, which is very close to Sancerre and Burgundy. They mostly make white wines and rosé wines there and it is a quite small wine area almost in the middle of France.

It was terribly hot while we were there, but that was normal, I think.

This will be white wine, someday.

🙂 TRAKTOR! This day ended with an epic feast at our hotel, lots of wonderful wine from Poilly Fumé and Burgundy and the most wonderful goose paté and steak. It was heaven.

When we came back, the whole Norwegian camp had a BBQ.

We must have had 15 tables lined up.

After driving our cars, this is what we did second most during the two weeks we were on the road; reading. That is definitely what summers are for.

This is from the championship. The team is to take the 2CV apart, get all the parts through a whole and build the car again and then drive it two meters. The Fins won over the Portugese and spent about an hour doing this. It was really fun watching.

They had one car each, naturally.

This guy hand painted cars. They were really nice. Lots of people sold gadgets and things. I didn’t buy that many things, but it was fun just looking as well. (I mostly bought car parts…)

I have many more pictures, from the trip down, from Paris and more from the meeting in Salbris also. I have wonderful amounts of pictures of 2CVs, but all in good time.

I’m not only back in Trondheim, but I have started working on my thesis again as well, so the days are getting more and more busy. And the first thing I will do after starting working is going back to Oslo for almost a week… This September is going to fly by! I love the autumn 🙂

No France yet

Since I am such a wonderful (and eager) planner I still haven’t found the time to play with my photoes yet. I give you this in stead:

The coolest guy ever

My life right now: my dream is to get a PhD and become a real scientist, I have so much wonderful music in my life after Øya and I have started preferring Champagne and asparagus over almost anything else.

These three are from a new blog love, The glamourai. This picture? THE WALLPAPER. And maybe the stairs. Those are the kind of stairs you need killer heels and a magnificent gown to walk down.

First I was only thinking about the chains on the bed and the slits for them, but I also love how it is part of the sitting room in a way.

First, bookshelves. I obviously have a thing for them. And I love the combination of old fashioned whole wood table and very modern chairs. Especially in combination with the modern chandelier. And the double doors. I have way too expensive taste for my own good.

You know what? There’s only one week left. And now I have been waiting the whole summer.

Nature?

Last year I got some wonderful photos of nature, especially during our cycling trip, but this summer I’ve only been where the grass didn’t grow. This is what I have so far…

I like trees

This one isn’t as bright as I had wanted, but still.

That’s city nature for you

Pretty planted ones

This one I really like.

So I will only have people to take pictures of this week, but I might do some cycling next week (or walking) and then I hope I’ll get some time in the sun with my new macro lens from B&H. I still haven’t really tried it.

Interior design

Many people have a dream house. Or they can walk through IKEA and put things together. Have favorite sofas and chairs. I don’t really do interior design. I’m good at putting food together and I’m good at putting clothes together, but interior, not my thing. I never get inspired either. Don’t know why.

There are some things that I would like to have, at least once in my life. I’d like bright open spaces. Deep windowsills with pillows for reading and looking at people. Dark matte tiles in the bathroom. Balcony and/ or terrace that’s big enough. Privacy to sun bathe naked (at least half naked). Large kitchen with enough disk space to make a five course dinner for 20 people. I want a floor to ceiling cupboard for glass ware. I’d like a library with books along all the walls, even over the door.

I don’t care what city I will live in or if I’ll live in the city centre or in the country side. It’ll take me a couple of years to want a garden again (it is a lot of work), especially one with grass. As long as I have wild strawberries I’ll be happy.

But then the other day I looked through another person’s inspirational photos and suddenly I found interior design that hit me.

This is almost like my window sill and library at once. And you should have a secret room behind the books (since the nook is so deep).

This reminded me of all the teapots that my father had to throw away when they cleared out his mother’s house this winter. My brother and I both got a teapot each, but the 15 others were thrown away. We could have used then as pots. I would never have thought of it.

This was such a smart solution to use the useless space under the stairs.

I just liked this sign. This is how you should do it at your summer house. Or if you live in the right kind of house.

I think I’m growing up. I’ve lived so many places and seen so many houses that I think I’m starting to know what I want. Even though I know it will be another 20 years until I can afford what I want…

I <3 katykelley.tumblr.com

I have mentioned her before, I’ll do it again. These were just lovely enough to repost.

Most of all, this is just a beautiful picture. I would have loved to see the rest of this ballet.

This is a genius idea! A cup with room for cookies! And it’s the cookie monster 🙂

Biology nerd meets music nerd. Just my cup of tea.

I will not say how many people I know that fall into this definition of nerd 😉

Snapshots of life

This was inside a bus stop in Trondheim. The two other pictures are from here.

This made me smile.

While this made me sad. And guilty. I am definitely too young to feel this tired. The people around me keep reminding me too slow down, but I never seem to manage. An I know very well that I can’t keep up this pace forever.

Coastal

So, I live in Trondheim, and as Trondheim is a coastal city, it has coastal weather. And because it is quite far into the fjord (Trondheimsfjorden) the weather is quite changing. A normal person in Trondheim will most of the year wear a gore tex jacket (or something that is water and wind proof) and sensible shoes (that can withstand water, frost, slippery ground of many sorts etc).

This is a prime example (sunshine in the front, dark clouds and heavy rain just over the fjord, coming our way, lots of wind). Photo taken with my camera. As you can see, not all summery temperatures in the far North these days. Just as well that I have to stay inside studying for exams.

Antennebytting i ARK

Her trekkes kabel

The last snow?

This hopefully was the last snow that stayed on the ground. If anything more were to fall out of the sky, then it should melt fast. I’m all for sneakers and high heels at the moment.

Soon these streets will be dry and the trees will be green

But at least the sun has returned

This was the first morning I had in weeks when I was up before 7. It made everything so much better.
