Soverom 2: sparklet og pusset alle vegger, malt to strøk i taket

I hvert fall knapt nok ute.

The end of an era

After what I guess is about 6 months, I have decided to stop my weekly posts on what I’m going to do.Mostly because I don’t want a blog of only that and right now I am already getting into summer mode. In summer mode I blog sporadically because I’m actually out doing things.

The last two weeks have been wonderful outside the internet. I was really good being outside for two nights, kayaking and just taking it slow. It was lovely going to Tusenfryd with Erik, talking about what we are going to do with the apartment and enjoying his company. Thursday it was the monthly meeting of Komité Speiding where we had to new members. And for the first time in many years we are one person extra, not one person short. This makes everything better and things run more smoothly, and next month we’ll have our meeting on the ship Havbraat and we are all very exited.

And as summer is getting closer there is less to do in scouting so I’m finally seeing the bottom of my inbox and my evenings are clearing up. So this weekend was just a breeze. I had my R exam on Friday and felt the “finished with it all” sensation the whole weekend. Friday we sat on a park bench and watched the skiers getting their pictures taken. Then we went to my parent’s house and barbequed and had the most amazing Barolo.

Saturday we had a slow morning for the first time in a long while, cleaned the apartment, had pankaces for breakfast and just got things done. We sat outside in the sun and looked at colour samples for the apartment (we are definitely going for colourful) and ended up getting to know some of our neighbours around the barbeque outside our house. We had beer, port, tequila and lots of laughs (and the perfect BBQed salmon).

Sunday was another spectacular day so we had our first breakfast outside. Then we decided to go cycling in the woods (Nordmarka). It was a very good trip, but I wasn’t prepared for all those hills, I have to admit. But I was only in my shorts and bikini top and we swam in one of the lakes before we went home. It was the perfect summer weekend and I love that we will have many more this summer.

Week 20

So the year is coming along nicely and we are already in the middle of May. This weekend was (as you know) spent doing sessions on various topics of rovering and travelling. I was home at 19 and Erik had made dinner (there was even wine!). This week is another week with a bank holiday and is filled with preparations for the canoe trip and cramming for my R exam.

Monday I have to answer all the emails I got over the weekend and I have a meeting with Roger about the progress with ExplorerBelt 2014. I am also planning to go to the gym (about time!).
Tuesday is Erik and mine’s official two year anniversary and we are going to do something amazing that we haven’t decided yet.
Wednesday I will stop by the scout house as usual and hopefully go to the gym.
Thursday I have no plans, but Alexander is in town so I hope he has time for me then.
Friday is the 17th, so there will be a big breakfast, bunad, kids, icecream and good people.
Early Saturday morning we leave for the canoe trip with the scouts. We will be back on Monday night and hopefully they will have learned how to canoe and we will have had a wonderful weekend.

Week 19

This weekend I was out on a hike with my scouts again. It was a challenge to keep spirits up and to help them master the skill that is hiking, but they are definately getting better at it.

On Friday we prepared equipment and I worked on some sessions for RoverNet. Saturday we started early, picking up the equipment, driving deep into Sørkedalen to meet the others. It was raining from early morning until 14 and we were all some place between damp and soaked. All the patroles in Oslo were competing to be the best in theoretical knowledge, knots, pioneering and first aid. During the day I walked around in the woods, helped scouts keep warm and dry and did some singing around the campfire. We walked home late that night, leaving the others to the fire and their tents.

Sunday was a magnificent sunny and warm day. There was a long breakfast, yet another skype meeting preparing sessions for RoverNet and a heap of to do’s. At 14 we went out and sat on the grass, reading Vogue/a book, just enjoying life. We had pizza at a sunny cafe at Torshov and I had a relaxing evening. It was a very good weekend and I finally feel relaxed about the next couple of weeks.

This week we’re signing the papers on the apartment and I’m going to sunny Malta!

Today I leave work an hour early to sign the papers on the apartment. After that I have to study more for my exam in R.
Tuesday we are going to see Beate’s exam in directing, exiting!
Wednesday hopefully has time for the gym.
Thursday is a bank holiday and in the evening I’m going to Malta!
The rest of the week I will be holding sessions and talking about the work and challenges of rover commissioners in WOSM. First time I’m in the planning team of this kind of event, so it is very exiting. The forecast says 23 degrees, so I’m bringing bathing suit, shorts and sunnies.

Week 18 (house!!)

The most important thing that happened this weekend happened today, we finally bought a house!! I’m this happy –> 😀 It’s not a whole house, it’s an apartment, but it is huge (75 square meters)! We will get the keys on Monday 17th of June, so now starts part two of this house hunt; desiding what to do where.

But about this weekend, it’s been a good one. Friday Tone turned 25 and had invited friends over to Henriken (review later) for beers. Erik and I had made chocolate cake and it was a very jolly evening. If some of the pictures are any good I will post them here.

Saturday we breakfasted and desided to go to Bekkestua to get our bicycles that had been there over the winter. Then we cycled home, a perfect ride in wonderful weather. We made pancakes with ham for lunch, I had a nap and then we went to my friends Tina’s place in Ås.  She’s a PhD candidate here at CIGENE with me and her husband just got offered a new job (after he finished his PhD here in a couple of weeks) so they had a party. They invited all their Indian friends (they are both from India) and us. We had so much wonderful food (I absolutely homemade chapati) and talked and laughed a lot.

Sunday we did a final search on finn.no, then made a plan and went out on a last hunt. We had lunch at Alexander Kiellands plass (Kasbah – will review that one too) and looked at three more apartments and went home. Pizza and the last Jason Bourne movie before bed.

This week suddenly changed now that we bought the apartment, but I guess it will look something like this:

  • Ola and Nils are coming for dinner tonight. Moose and red wine are on the menu, among other things. And some champagne for the new house!
  • Tuesday I will hit the gym and then I have more meetings to prepare RoverNet in Malta.
  • Wednesday is a day off and we have no plans yet, but we will probably do a lot of work on the apartment then.
  • Thursday the only plan is the gym.
  • Friday we have the first meeting the the seller and I thought I might stop by a meeting, but we will see.
  • Saturday we are working at the patrole competition in Oslo, to see which will go to the national championship. We will be out all day helping out.
  • Sunday there is nothing, but maybe we will celebrate the first Sunday in a long while without any apartment hunting…

Week 17

You know, the weeks just keep flying by. This weekend has been a glorious sunny experience and I even saw my first russ (high school graduate in red pants), so now I am totally ready for spring. I have a sunburn on my nose and slept under the stars.

This week will be much like last week, different kinds of scout meetings, apartment hunting and maybe I will manage to get to the gym more. My plans keep shifting all the time and mostly because we find new apartments we want to see or deside that some aren’t good enough after all.

I have no idea how many we look at every week, but it feels like a thousand. We almost bought an apartment on Friday and we might buy one today or another one tomorrow. The apartments we look at get bigger and more expensive, but I’m not sure what we will end up buying. And they are all over town, so it will be interesting to see where we end up.

The biggest difference this week is that I will be home the whole weekend! 😀 Friday night we are spending with Tone, but the rest of the weekend is wide open. Wonder what we will do. We have to do something really good, because the next three weekends in a row are all filled with scouting…

Sheep

The camera on my phone has not been functioning for some days now, so while I’m waiting for the time to give the phone a spring cleaning I’m using my iPad as camera. I have never felt so silly while taking a picture (and I generally feel silly when I take pictures of myself) as I do when using the iPad. It feels like taking a picture with a book. It’s too big and everything.

But I will nevertheless give you of the sheep that are grazing just outsiden my office window.

Week 16

The feeling of weekend sort of lingered on to Monday, so I’m a bit late with Week 16. Anyhow, it ended up being a really good weekend. I keep saying this, but at home-weekends are the best. I should probably take the consequences of this and start saying no to things.

Friday I tried the rowing machines in the gym for the first time. Then I met up with Åse and first had dinner at Cafe Løkka at Grünerløkka and then beer at at bar around the corner. She had to go home to her dog, but Erik came and had a drink with me before it was time for bed.

Saturday was a slow breakfast, then I headed to Bekkestua to have lunch with my parents, talk and show pictures from Italy. When I came home we made grilled haloumi, couscous and tomato salsa for dinner and then everybody (aka Kristian, Silje, Åse, Martin and Karen) came over. There was an epic round of Munchkin and some cocktails and suddenly Saturday turned into Sunday.

I had an early morning Skype meeting with Jón about the games we are going to play with the participants when we are in Malta in a couple of weeks. Jón is one of my favourite crazy Icelanders and I really like working with him. And then I went climbing! It’s been ages and it was really fun to climb with Kristian and Silje. I think Klatreverket is overpriced, but there is nothing I can do about it. The Sunday ended with an epic dinner and a movie-date.

This week has a lot of scouting in it, but also some space for relaxing.

  • Monday there was another dinner and movie-date, this time home made pizza and “Thelma & Louise”. I have never seen it before and I highly recommend it. In the middle I had a short Skype meeting discussing the anniversary of the scout cabin of the student scout group. The celebration will be in August 2014, we are just trying to be prepared…
  • Today I have a longer Skype meeting preparing Rovernet in Malta in the beginning of May. We are getting closer, have participants and now need to get everything together.
  • Wednesday I’m going to the gym again. I went to a heavy lifting-class last week and was completely wrecked for two whole days. So I thought I’d go back this week. And afterwards I will pop by the scout house to see how things are going.
  • Thursday Erik is out and I have no plans. I probably have paperwork I should do, but I think I might try to get some company for dinner.
  • Friday I hope I have time to stop by the gym before I go to Nøtterøy outside of Tønsberg. It is the time for Roverløft 2013 at Torød and I will be there and support the team through the weekend. I will also talk to rovers and do a presentation, but mostly just walk around. Hoping for warm weather the whole weekend! I’ll be back on Sunday, but I don’t know what I want to do then. Go climbing? Another date night with Erik? Maybe we should look at some apartments? We’ll see!

Interior design

As we have been on the hunt for an apartment for a while now, I have started noting what I actually like and what I would want to do with my own house (apartment). I realise I really like 20’s style and clean lines. But I also need a good sofa to crash in. We have a long list of things that makes an apartment, an excerpt is:

  • dining table for at least 8, enough working space in the kitchen for three people working at once, a good sofa, enough space for all our clothes (and all my shoes and handbags), space for all our books, CDs and things, storage space close by for hiking gear and skis….

We have also decided that there are so much you can get for free, either from parents and grandparents that have too much stuff, or from Finn and thift shops, why buy something new when you can get better quality for a lower price? So I guess our house will end up looking a bit patched and quirky.

I thought I’d link to two sites, onw with bookshelf porn (for inspiration) and one with IKEA hacks (for ideas). Some sneak peaks here:

Week 15

This is the longest I have gone without blogging in a long while and it has been really good just to be completely disconnected. I will tell you more (and show pictures!), but I thought I’d give you a short recap of my trip to Italy.

We flew to Bergamo, just outside of Milan, where we had rented a car. The first day we stopped by Cremona and ended up in Parma. We spent a day in Parma, went to Florence to visit Victoria, then started a tour of Tuscany. We went to San Gimignano to see the towers, Siena to see architecture, Montalcino and Montepulciano for wine tasting. The last days of the trip we spent in Florence and a one day-trip to Pisa to walk up the Leaning Tower.

Yesterday we cleaned the apartment and went to look at even more apartments in the wonderful sunshine. It’s crazy how you only have one day to decide if you want to buy a house. This week seems to be a lot calmer than the weeks before Easter, I hope.

Today I’m back at work and tonight we have a meeting for all the leaders in the scout group.
Tuesday I hope to be back in the gym.
Wednesday is open, but we will see what happens.
Thursday I have to register all the scouts that are going to the national jamboree (landsleir) this summer and to all the paperwork.
I think I have to go to a scout seminar this weekend, but I am trying to get out of it. I have too much on my plate right now.

Oh, and this was the first blog post written on my iPad! We brought it to Italy and I am now completely addicted to solitaire (yes, I’m that kind of person) and really love this thing. I think it will definitely be worth the extreme price.

Week 13

It feels like it has been a while, but it was finally time for another perfect weekend. Friday we went to Little Saigon just around the corner from Youngstorget for dinner because Erik and Morten were going to see Louis CK (the comedian) and then I met up with Una at Crowbar (anmeldelse senere) and tried a lot of their self brewed beer before we moved on to Bushwick (in the basement of Rockefeller).

Saturday we had yet another pancake breakfast, tried to figure out what surf board (iPad or similar) I want and I did yet another round on finn.no for a flat. Oh, and then I went shopping! I bought two pairs of pants, pants! You know, I never wear pants, but that’s just because the ones I own are terribly uncomfortable. So now I have bought two pairs with crazy patterns (I am growing more colourful and crazy the older I get). Oh, and I finally got a pair of pointy pumps with metal tip, they’re even burgundy and kost m only 200NOK, very happy. The most important thing though is that I managed to find a bazer too, which was the reason why I went shopping… We had chicken and bean tortillas and Tone came over for beers. We had a laugh over the impossible quiz of Morgenbladet yet again and realized we are way better at American presidents and revolution than Norwegian mountains.

Sunday was all about apartment hunting. We first decided on where to go (which is the hard part, really), then went to see five apartments. We came home, talked and analyzed and finally decided that we didn’t want any of them. There was no trip to the gym, but some laundry, lasagna and Poirot. Oh, and detailed reading of Lonely Planet Italy 😉

This week is Easter holiday here, but I will work for three days and then we are going to Italy!

  • Monday we are packing and mom is coming over to talk about money and things.
  • Tuesday I have a skype meeting with the project leader of Explorer Belt 2014.
  • Wednesday we are invited to Erik’s uncle and aunt for dinner. I haven’t met them yet, so it will be nice to finally meet them.
  • Thursday morning we fly Ryanair ( 🙁 ) to Bergamo! We haven’t decided everything we want to do yet, but we are stopping by Pisa, Parma, Florence, Siena and a couple of wineyards. I can’t wait to go. Travelling with Erik is my favorite thing in the whole world.

Week 12

Wow, this 2013 is really coming along nicely. I am still stuck in 2012, that is, I’m still not used to writing 2013, but maybe I’m just getting old…

The whole weekend was spent in Paris or travelling. But I managed to take some pictures! I went straight from work (early, even) on Friday and spent the rest of the day travelling. Saturday we planned the RoverNet 4.0 that will be in Malta in May, ate wonderful French food and planned some more. I really can’t decide it I like France or not. The food is wonderful, but I hate the breakfast. And with no breakfast I turn into a grumpy bugger. The dinner(s) was nice though, and the people I work with on RoverNet are great. Sunday we only had a short session, which gave me a whole day in Paris. But all I wanted was to go home, so I wasn’t as happy as I probably should have been. Oh, well. I walked around, had coffee, saw the Eiffel tower again and flew Ryanair home.

This week I’m doing a PhD course in Oslo and I’m trying to empty my to do-list and inbox before Easter.

  • Monday we have yet another flat to look at and I have to say hello to my inbox again. Maybe I’ll even have time for the gym.
  • Tuesday I will donate blood at Blodbanken in Oslo. I usually have too low values, but I go anyway to try and to get a new wine glass 😉
  • Wednesday I’ll try and visit the scouts and their patrole meetings, we have to tidy the apartment because on Thursday we are having someone over to clean the flat for us! Yes, we are contemplating paying someone else to clean our flat and now we will try and see how it works. Other than that I probably have some reading and writing to do.
  • Thursday it is the annual general assembly of my region in the scout association and I am going to do my duty. You know, vote, talk and try not to get any new positions.
  • Friday Erik has plans, but I don’t (which almost never happen), so I don’t really know what I want to do. Maybe I’ll go shopping. I need a new jacket (or two) to wear over dresses at parties.
  • As everyone are usually going away for Easter, we haven’t made any plans, but we are both working next week as well, so it’s just an ordinary weekend. We will probably meet nice people, get some fresh air and just plan for Italy 🙂

Week 11

This weekend ended being something completely different than I had thought. Theatre with Karianne and Fredrik on Friday was really nice. My Fair Lady at Folketeateret is really goodand I highly recommend it! We also happened upon a bottle of champagne that made the evenening even better.

Saturday we finally managed to sit down and look at apartments for sale. We had our list of priorities, so it wasn’t that difficult to decide wich we should go and have a look at. In the middle of apartment hunting, we skyped with Ruben 🙂 He is well settled in South Korea and will start to look at the big boats this week. Suddenly it was late, so we cleaned the apartment, grcery shopped and made a roast, all in a hurry. Then there were dinner guests, cake and a party 🙂 All in all a very good ‘a week in advance’ birthdy party for Erik.

Sunday we had breakfast, Erik had to work, I went for a walk, then my parents joined us for a trip to look at some apartments. The first one was terrible, but the second one was really good. It is a bit expencive, almost as fas as we can go, but it is wonderful. So we have decided to bid on it. Wish me luck!

This week is filled with meetings and Paris already, and now there will be some apartment hunting as well.

  • Monday I’m back in the gym and after that, Ida is making me dinner.
  • Tuesday I have a Skypemeeting with the Explorer Belt project leader-to-be and hopefully I’ll finally have time to empty my inbox again.
  • Wednesday it is our monthly meeting with Komité Speiding, that takes all night.
  • Thursday it’s either the gym or more apartment hunting. Oh, and I’ll have to pack for Paris. I really hope the weather will be good there.
  • Friday I’m going straight from work to the airport. Flying is getting less and less glamorous the more I do it…
  • The weekend we will plan and get to know each other and have fun. My flight on Sunday is really late, so I’ll probably get to see some of Paris as well.

  • Tekehtopa, St. Olavs plass: Litt dårlig ølutvalg, ganske koselig og mer krokete enn de to over.

Week 10

😀

This is me after this weekend. It was just the perfect weekend. But almost all weekends I spend at home are perfect. Friday I first celebrated my birthday with my parents at Plah (pictures later) and then went out with all my friends at Tekehtopa. I even got presents!

Saturday we had all the time in the world, finally had time to clean the flat (the dust bunnies were killing us) and then had a super social day. First birthday lunch with Ida, Erik’s sister, at the new restaurant at Grand Hotel (super lunch!), then dinner with Ruben (nothing beats fresh pasta and bacon), Cirque de Soleil (circus!) and finally Ruben’s going away party. We were quite beat by the end of the night, so we didn’t stay long, but it was nice to say goodbye.

Friday we had our traditional American pancake breakfast, yum. I spent the morning doing (Scout) paper work (it never seems to end) and how now paid my fine to the government for crashing into a lamp post (not recommended). I had a wonderful run in the warm, sunny weather and then wecut a couple of threes behind Erik’s parents’ garden, to use for this week’s scout meeting. I even had time for a short budget meeting before the day was done.

This week has a lot of scout meetings and another wonderful weekend.

  • Monday it is time for the gym again.
  • Tuesday I’ll pop by the scout office and finalise a budget that has been causing me trouble.
  • Wednesday it is the monthly troop meeting and this time it is all about pionering and making things with poles and rope.
  • Thursday is the first meeting of the jubile committee for Duddelibu’s 50 year anniversary, which I’m in. We have to decide what to do and when to do it
  • Friday we’re going to see My Fair Lady at Folketeateret with Fredrik and Karianne, so much fun.
  • Saturday has no plans, except celebrating Erik’s birthday. Maybe a party?
  • Sunday I’ll keep open and see what happens 🙂

Week 9

Ah, this weekend was just the perfect Trondheim weekend. I haven’t been to Trondheim in 6 months or something, and it was really good to be back. I got to see all my Trondheim people and spend a lot of time at Samfundet. Friday I first went to the carity party of the student scout group. It was good to see both old and new student scouts. Then I met Erik at Samfundet and we had an epic (and quite late) night with all his people from Regi. Saturday we just slept and had breakfast with Amund and Anne (pancakes, bacon, fresh juice, good cheese etc.) before we had to go back to Samfundet.

Because Saturday was the night Erik would get his knighthood (-ship?)! There was a three course dinner, a medal seremony and a party. I wore my ballgown and Erik had his tux on and I was just so proud of him 🙂 We had time for a long coffee with Pia before our plane back to Oslo. We ended the weekend with (Norwegian style) taco with Ruben.

This week is at last a whole week at home in Oslo, but also the last week Ruben is in Oslo in 1,5 years.

  • Monday I’m back in the gym after a week break (since I had the flu last week).
  • Tuesday is the meeting with Raymond and Sven Bjørn that I thought was last week.
  • Wednesday I’m dropping by the scout house to see how the patroles are doing with their meetings. I should probably go to the gym as well.
  • Thursday we are going to Rubens’ house to help him pack.
  • Friday I’m planning to celebrate my birthday with a dinner with my family. As it isn’t the 29th this year, I’m not making a big deal out of it.
  • Saturday is both Cirque de Soleil and Rubens’ going away party. Erik has seen Cirque de Soleil before, and we are both looking forward some real circus action! Ruben will be away for a long time, first South-Korea for six months (where we will visit him!), then he will live in both USA and Austraila before he is going back home.
  • Sunday we’ll probably take it easy 🙂
