Week 8
This weekend was a social one. Dinner (and breakfast) with Fredrik and Karianne on Friday in their new, fantastic house in Jessheim. We had the best time, tried all their different types of glasses and enjoyed the luxury of out of town-living. Saturday we went back home to Bjølsen, then I spent some hours just talking about life at Bjølsen Bakeri with Beate. Then suddenly it was dark, we made homemade hamburgers (with lots of meat, bacon, cheddar and home made bread) and had some good beer. Fride and Tarjei were visiting Oslo because Tarjei was playing at By:Larm, so we met up at Smelteverket, one of the new bars at Mathallen. It was crowded, evidently very hip, but even though the beer was good, the bartenders were super-slow. But we were a great gang of people, so it was a good night. Sunday we were going to go sleigh riding in Korketrekkeren, but I got this season’s flu, so we ended up spending the Sunday at home, talking about where we want to go in South-Korea and just chillin’ 😉 We’ll see how working goes this week.
This week is filling up with meetings, I hope I will be well enough to go to the gym and then we are going to Trondheim!
- Monday we are having dinner with Ruben, and hopefully going to the gym.
- Tuesday I have a meeting with two others in Komité Speiding about important rover business and recruiting new members to the committee.
- Wednesday is still open.
- Thursday I have ashort Skype meeting.
- Friday we are off to Trondheim! On Friday night I’ll be at a charity event with the student scout group.
- Saturday is the big party, DTP (Den Træge Patron), the gathering of all the technical clubs and groups at Studentersamfundet.
- Sunday we’ll be going back home again, brunching before we leave and relaxing when we get home.
Week 7
This weekend wasn’t really like a weekend, but more like an ordinary seminar or conference. We do the same things every day, but talk about different things. Wake up at eight, wonderful breakfast, sessions start at nine. The first session we have a keynote speaker and then we have different sessions where we discuss the aspects of the day’s theme. We have coffee breaks, really good lunch and finally dinner at seven. The evenings are spent talking with all the interesting people.
This week will be about scouting and fun.
Today we are talking about strategy and sales, how to sell scouting both to potential members and investors.
Tomorrow is the last day here and we will talk about global leadership and what we are going to use this all for when we get back home.
Wednesday I am going home and hope that I will last through a whole day of work. In the evening I have a Skype meeting and probably an early night.
Thursday it’s back to the office, but in the evening we are going to the opera 🙂 I am really looking forward to it.
Friday we have dinner plans with Fredrik and Karianne in their new house.
Saturday I have no plans, but that is probably a good idea.
Sunday we are going to sleigh in Korketrekker, the old bob sleigh track in Oslo. I just hope that the snow will keep.
Week 6
The weekend ended up being slow and full of good things at the same time. Friday we went climbing for the first time in ages, because of our climbing scout meeting this Wednesday. I haven’t climbed in a while and wanted to practice a bit before the meeting. I really love climbing, it is just so expensive. The rest of the night we just had dinner and got some paperwork done. A slow Friday at home, just what I needed.
Saturday I slept late, had a slow breakfast (Erik was out cross country skiing) and walked around Sagene with Åse. We sat at Kaffebrenneriet, talking about work, politics and boyfriends, life essentially, for hours. I did a tough session at the gym, went home to change and then there was “French evening”, the annual party of the 2CV club after the annual general assembly. The food was magnificent! (apparently it was all I could talk about for the rest of the evening)
Sunday we had no plans at all, a really good feeling early in the morning. We bought plane tickets to Trondheim later in February, rented a car in Italy for our road trip and we have started looking at tickets to South Korea. Oh, and we are going to see “My Fair Lady” at Folketeateret with Karianne and Fredrik. Ah, so many good plans. We watched a terrible movie (“The five year engagement“), cleaned the apartment, had salmon, mashed potatoes and bacon for dinner and were sad because I will be away for a whole week from Thursday.
This week will be fast and Danish, I guess.
- Today I’m doing a long day at work and then a run in the evening, I guess.
- Tomorrow it will be exactly two years since I met Erik for the first time, so we are going out to have dinner. Tapas is always a winner, meat and cheese, who could resist?
- Wednesday we are going climbing with the scouts. But first we will do this safety pass/test/thing (brattkortprøven), to be allowed to secure people while climbing.
- Thursday I will be going directly from work to the airport. I bought a new carry on suitcase last Wednesday and now I will take it out for a ride. I will return early Wednesday morning next week, so I wont see Erik for almost a week 🙁 So, I will have to bring both training gear, scout uniform and everything else you need for five days of meetings and discussions.
- The weekend I will spend getting up early, talking a lot and getting to bed late. I’ll keep you posted.
Week 5
This weekend was filled with snow and Erik. Friday I spent the day first learning about all the practical things a PhD candidate at UMB should know and after lunch I witnessed my first PhD dissertation. It was interesting, scary and fun at the same time. Friday night we were packing for our cabin trip, grocery shopping and mentally preparing for a two day hike with 12-16 year olds.
It started snowing during the night and snowed the whole weekend, but with below zero temperatures, we weren’t wet and it wasn’t too cold either. The cabin we went to is owned by our scout group, but hasn’t been used that mutch the last 15 (!) years. And as the city has spread, our forest cabin is suddenly at the edge of a villa area. It was strange walking over to the small toilet house and look over the valley and all the houses and lights on the way.
Sunday we had a slow start, some oatmeal pudding and a slow walk through civilisation to our pick up point. When we came home warm showers and hot soup was on the menu. In the evening I finally had some time to catch up with my inbox and we had waffles as a night snack before bed.
- Monday we are invited over to Ola’s place for dinner. He always makes delicious food, so I am very excited, even though we can’t stay long (due to getting up very early in the morning)
- Tuesday is the first day of my “Statistical programming in R course” and I am a bit nervous.
- Tuesday I will be vack in the gym again too 🙂
- Wednesday is the last day at work for Simon, one of the bioinformaticians. He has helped me a lot with Linux and I will miss him after he moves to Berlin.
- And I will stop by our scout house on my way back from work, to see how the patrol meetings are going.
- Thursday is another gym/home night (when I work a “long day” at the office and then go to the gym after, I’m not home until 19.30 and I have to go to bed at 21.30, so there is not mutch left of the day)
- Friday we might go to the Opera/theatre, but we haven’t decided yet.
- Saturday will be calm and include grocery shopping, cleaning and reading of the paper, I guess. Oh, and maybe buying a new carry on suitcase.
- Saturday is also the annual general assembly of the 2CV club and it’s wonderful “French night” dinner. This year is insired by French Morocco and African dishes. Looking forward to a wonderful night with exciting food.
- Sunday is wide open and I think I’ll just keep it like that for a little while.
Week 4
This weekend was calm, quiet and good. I have ended up going to the gym a lot during weekends, and this one was no different. Because of train problems during the morning, I was 1 hour late for work (which means I spent 2,5 hours getting to work), so I stayed an hour more on Friday and then went straight to the gym. Ruben came by with some Asian food from Sagene and we watched the first Varg Veum movie, Girl’s Generations’ (South Korean pop group) first Japan tour video on YouTube and talked about South Korea and his plans for moving.
Erik came home very late Friday, so I had most of Saturday to myself while he slept. I finally managed to organize all my pictures on my domain and delete all the copies I had everywhere. So when I manage to get a decent gallery application, all my pictures will be at bulldozerborg.com. Late Saturday we did some grocery shopping and invited some friends over for a quiet evening. Sunday we were back in the gym, finally cleaned the apartment and had (yet another) scout meeting. This seems like how our weekends usually end up.
Oh, and good news! My travel plans for the spring are soon all in order and I will be going to Kopenhagen, Paris, Italy and Porto before summer 🙂 This week will be about keeping up my exercise and going on our first trip with the scout troop.
- Monday I am hoping to go for dinner at Tinas’, but I’m afraid she is still sick. In that case I’ll probably go to the gym.
- Tuesday Tone has invited us for dinner.
- Wednesday I have a meeting with a project group, team of what will the my scout associations’ first Explorer Belt in a long while.
- And after my meeting I might have to pop by the patrol meetings at the scout house to see how they are doing.
- Thursday is open, so a nice dinner and/or the gym.
- Friday is free, but I guess we will have to do a lot of last minute preparations for our hiking trip.
- Saturday we are going hiking with the scout troop. It is just a short trip, but it will be the first time I’m really out and about with the kids, so I am very excited.
- Sunday, after we have come home from the hike, I guess we will clean our gear and collapse on the couch.
Instaweek
Week 3
This weekend was a good one too, even though we didn’t get to clean the apartment as we had wished. But there was a lot of good food, some shopping (feels like I haven’t done that in a while) and exercise. Friday I went swimming after work and when I came home Erik had made a wonderful meal, bought flowers and we had a very good Italian wine.Saturday we were super efficient. We went to our storage and got the last of the winter sports equipment and some books I was missing. Then we had lunch with Erik’s parents and did a round through the shops at Majorstua (this is the point where I bought three new pairs of shoes and a dress). In the evening we had tapas at Meatmarket at Aker Brygge and went past a friend’s party on our way home. Sunday we were up early and got some execise before brunch with my parents at Mat & Mer (slow service, good food) at Bjølsen. I ended the weekend with my fifth scout meeting of the week.
But this week is mutch better, or at least not as crowded as last week.
- Monday is the day for the late weekend cleaning and looking for tickets to Italy for Easter holidays.
- Tuesday there is another date night. We are going to see “Life of Pi“.
- Wednesday is the first troop meeting (Scouts) after Erik and I decided to be real scout leaders again.
- I am really looking forward to Thursday, because I am coming home with Tina after work. She has invited me for real southern Indian food for dinner with her family. I can’t wait to taste real, every day Indian food.
- Friday I have no plans, but I might be going into the woods to entertain some scout leaders around the camp fire.
- Saturday is empty and I am happy keeping it that way.
- Sunday I’ll probably go for my weekly weight lift session and in the evening we have another planning meeting in the scout group.
It looks to be a good week.
Pictures! Colours! Life!
Every day I look at pictures from warm, sunny, pretty places and every day I wish that I could find something for Erik and myself to do there. I realise that I will have to travel at one time. Not just weekends or weeks, but months and years.
But for now I am happy in Oslo with my friends and job. I have to finish this PhD first anyway.
Week 2
This weekend was just wonderful. Friday we helped some friends move and then we saw Jarle Bernhoft and band at Rockefeller. After that we tried a new bar in the basement there called Bushwick. Really nice. Saturday we slept in, enjoyed our breakfast and rummaged through our new cookbooks to find exciting new dinner suggestions. After that we cleaned the apartment, made delicious food and celebrated Åses birthday. Sunday we went straight to the gym for the first weight lifting in a long while, had another delicious breakfast and after just a couple of hours Erik had to leave for Copenhagen. I spent the evening with a movie and the Internet.
This week is just the week from hell, or rather a obsessive planner’s dream week.
- Monday we have our first preparatory meeting for the troop in Longship group, which I have to do alone, as Erik is in Copenhagen
- Tuesday it’s the first committee meeting of Komité Speiding this year
- Wednesday we have invited the scouts’ parents to come and give and get information on the next six months
- Thursday all the leaders in the scout group will meet up and make big decisions and big plans for the group the next two years
- Friday Erik has promised me we will do something fun, which probably means, a good work out, good food and an early night 😉
- Saturday we are invited to Meatmarked with Erik’s family
- Sunday we’ll probably have to shop, clean and work out some more
I’m not quite sure what I will be doing at work, but probably what I have been doing the last two weeks, reading articles, trying to solve all the little problems when trying to do an analysis and slowly ticking all the boxes from the univeristy (deciding courses, making plans, getting keys).
The apartment
As I have promised, here are a round trip in our apartment. We haven’t done mutch with it, but it really works well. Tomorrow will be the first big test, because we’ll be almost 10 for dinner…
Ok, so this is one part of the living room, sofa, tv/stereo and “the bar”.
Hepburn is still with me.
This is the other half, with the table, windows, all my dresses and our book shelf.
It is dwarfed by all of Erik’s boardgames. The two purple things contain all our training gear. These are all the books we have in the apartment, the rest are still in storage.
The office supply to the left and my make up and jewllery to the right.
Erik’s pretty bowls, all are nice glasses and our wine and sutch.
This is our tiny room, it contains just our bed and the rest of my clothes.
Our tiny kitchen, we still have things up in the attic that we couldn’t find room for. But it works surprisingly well.
This is our hall, the kitchen is to the right. The mirrors hide all our coats, all my shoes (all!) and most of Erik’s shirts. Oh, and his shoes, of course.
We have a map of the city, with small hearts on where all our friends live.
The bathroom is also in the hall, and is just the right size. And it is wonderful to have our own washing machine.
Right now I have our kitchen to the right and the sofa to the left, the door is to the right and the bathroom to the left. As you can see, the apartment is tiny. Tiny.
The last purple box contains everything we should have read. But blogging and the internet is mostly more fun thatn newspapers…
God jul!
How to…
Week 51
This weekend ended up just as relaxed as I had hoped. Delicious dinner with Ruben and later gluwein and cinnamon cookies with Beate on Friday. Saturday I managed to buy almost all the Christmas presents I needed (and have taken a liking to Storosenteret), very pleased about that. The rest of the day we saw the Hobbit and then The Fellowship of the Ring. Sunday started slow, but at the end of the day I had sorted out pictures for mum’s calendar, cleaned the apartment, taken a stroll along Akerselva up to Frysja and played boardgames with Erik and Ruben.
This week is the last before Christmas and for the first time in a long time I have tons of Christmas feeling (as we say in Norwegian). I really can’t wait 🙂
- Monday we had a Christmas gathering at my supervisor’s house. We talked about the year to come and then made calzones in his wood fired oven.
- Yesterday we also had a whole roasted piglet, at the restaurant Olympen (Lompa), it was delicious!
- Tuesday is the day of a difficult meeting.
- Wednesday I will hopefully have time to exercise.
- Thursday is open and Friday we are going to Tone’s to do Christmasy things.
- The weekend is not planned, but I might have to do some finishing touches on Erik’s gift and there will be some relaxing before the Christmas parties begin.
Benjas råd
Benjas beste råd for å gjøre suksess
7. By på deg selv. Vær et forbilde for neste generasjon. Våg å vise at alle snubler iblant.
8. Motstand gjør deg sterkere. Snu motvind til medvind. Det er i motbakke det går oppover.
9. For å få noe, må du gi avkall på noe annet. For å kunne være 100 prosent til stede i det du gjør, må noe prioriteres bort. Det er helt greit å bruke kakemiks til skoleavslutninga.
Week 50
Wow. It was supposed to be a busy, but nice weekend. It started good with Indian food with Ruben at Grønland and later dessert and beer at Dattera til Hagen on Friday. I went to Elkjøp to feel up some computers, to try to decide on a PC for work and then I ended the night with just enough port with Ola and Nils. Saturday I went to Grue kirke (my all time favorite church) to hold a second Christmas concert with Chorus Felix (video of the first one here). I then drove to Tønsberg to meet up with Sara and Jørgen for pizza and Sunday morning I went to Torød to meet the nice people who are preparing Roverløft 2013. So yes, nice weekend. Then I drove off the road and into a lamp post on the highway. I smashed my parent’s car, but am still in one piece. And if I’m lucky the muscle aches will stop soon and I will be all right. I even got in the newspaper…
But this week looks mutch calmer than last:
- Today is the Yeasayer concert at Rockefeller. Can’t wait! (no head banging, though)
- Then there will be time for some exercise (at last!) and hopefully Ruben will come over for dinner.
- Now that I am officially a member of Longship group 41. Oslo, Erik and I will have our first preparatory meeting as troop leaders. I am really exited about our partnership as scout leaders 🙂
- Friday I’m going to Ola’s cabin (but I am no longer borrowing my parent’s car, as I have already smashed it), just to hang out with nice people and enjoy some fresh air and board games. And port wine.
- The rest of the weekend is all blank, as Erik has promised me lazy weekend days and fun. I guess pancakes, newspapers and cleaning is on the menu.
- And work wise, I’m reading up on SNPs, QTL mapping and salmon.
Christmas presents?
First thing on the list is from Made by Cecilie, a sushi tray. Or really a nyotaimori sushi tray.
Which is the art of serving sushi on a naked woman’s body. I think is would be a lovely way to eat my take out sushi.
The second is also food related, it is the secon book from Cake wrecks, Wreck the halls, which you can find on amazon.com.
I bet the book is just as wonderful (and disturbing) as the blog.
The third, speaking of high blood pressure, is some very realistic jewellery from Peggy Skemp. I particularly like this necklace.
That’s a heart locket for you!
Week 49
This weekend was nice. Quiet and nice. Friday we went to the gym and had a quiet night at home. Saturday we went to the Christmas marked at Bygdøy in the sun and in the afternoon Tone came and joined us for some Christmas beer tasting. I’ll be posting the results soon. Sunday we went to the gym again, walked in the sun and had a very quiet day. Just perfect before my first day.
This week all my time goes into two things. And then I have an announcement! Erik and I have decided that we want 15 children! 😉 Or in other words, we are the new troop leaders of Longship scout group (Erik’s old group). We’ll start in January and have already started making plans for the spring. I’m really excited to do some scouting with scouts again, not only with paper…
- today I have my first day at my new job. I am trying the shuttle bus for the fist time and will have to deal with all the practicalities. Get the contract right, get a desk, decide on computer, get access to their systems.
- during the week I will be working on the project proposal/description of my PhD and making a plan.
- on Tureday we have our last rehearsal before our Christmas concert, and it will be a rehearsal with the harpist. You know someone playing a harp? 🙂
- on Wednesday is the concert in Høvik kirke at 19.00 (come!) and I have invited Eriks family, because both my parents sing in the chior as well, and I want someone to come and listen.
- Thursday and Friday I’ll probably be in the gym
- on Saturday we are having a second concert, but this time in Grue together with a chior there.
- after that, I am going to Tønsberg to visit wonderful Sara. We’re even having a sleepover!
- early Sunday morning I am visiting the organising group of Roverløft, to see how they are doing and to give some feedback.
- then I’m meeting Kathrine for lunch in Tønsberg (or maybe Horten) and finally I will go home.
- hopefully, Sunday evening will be quiet, to give me some strength for my second week of work.
Week 48
As I am entering have already started this last week, I thought I’d tell you a bit about my weekend and about the week to come. The weekend ended up being a quiet one. The meeting with my supervisor on Friday was good, but we have to do most of the important stuff on Monday. But I got to meet most of my co-workers and they are really nice 🙂 The meeting with the programme committee included some really good discussions and I went home on Saturday looking forward to 2013. Oh, and I cut my hair on Friday. And got a new hair product I will talk more about later. Saturday was just Erik and I and Sunday we cleaned the flat, went to Astrup Fernley, I had dinner at the new Jeppes in Stabekk with my parents and I got some new stuff from my grandmother.
But this week I don’t really know what I am going to do.
- Monday I spent at home, re-organising and reading the paper.
- I also went to an extra rehearsal with the choir and there will be a rehearsal today as well.
- Today I am going to Nasjonalgalleriet to see the Emil Nolde exibition with Ida and to have lunch.
- And for a surprise, Erik has asked me if I want to be a troop leader with him in his scout group, Longship! So on Wednesday I’m going to their last meeting before Christmas. I really hope that I have time to go to a Christmas concert as well, but we’ll see.
- Thursday is open (unless someone wants to go with me to the Michael Kiwanuka concert at Rockefeller).
- We haven’t decided what we want to do this weekend, but it looks like friends, food and relaxing.
- During daytime I will have to get some time to go to the gym, but I don’t know what else to do. I still haven’t taken the Python exam, but I really don’t feel like it either. There is still some organising left at home, and when I’m finished, I’ll post some pictures.
Have a happy week!
Show me some moves
As life is slowly settling down as Erik is getting used to office hours and I have stopped applying for work, I have had time to look through more pictures. I just wanted to thank all our friends and family that helped us move. We have a lot of stuff, but it all took four hours and we were done.
This last pic is my outfit at our little house warming. I apologise for my expression, but look at the nice west I bought in Tunisia. I think I have to take it in a bit, but I love all the glitter 🙂
